The Company's baked foods customers include mass merchandisers, supermarkets and other retailers, restaurants, quick-serve chains, food wholesalers, institutions, dollar stores and vending companies. The Company sells returned and surplus products through a system of discount bakery stores. The Company operates approximately 280 discount bakery stores.
The DSD segment's production plant locations include Birmingham, Alabama; Opelika, Alabama; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Goldsboro, North Carolina; Jamestown, North Carolina, and Oxford, Pennsylvania. The Warehouse Segment's production plant locations include Montgomery, Alabama; Texarkana, Arkansas; London, Kentucky; Tucker, Georgia; Cedar Rapids, Iowa (mix plant); Cleveland, Tennessee, and Crossville, Tennessee. The DSD Segment operates approximately 40 bakeries that market a range of bakery foods, including breads, buns, rolls, tortillas and snack cakes. These products are sold through a direct-store-delivery model to retail and foodservice customers in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, New England, Southwest, California, and various markets in Nevada, the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest. The DSD Segment's Company-owned brands include Nature's Own, Wonder, Whitewheat, Cobblestone Bread Company, Tastykake, Home Pride and Merita. The DSD Segment's franchised and licensed brands include Sunbeam, Bunny and Holsum. The Company's DSD Segment consists of approximately 5,100 independent distributors, who own the rights to distribute certain brands of the Company's packaged bakery foods in their geographic territories.
The Warehouse Segment produces frozen bread and rolls, and snack cakes. The Warehouse Segment operates approximately 10 bakeries that produce snack cakes, breads and rolls for national retail, foodservice, vending, and co-pack customers, which are delivered through customer's warehouse channels and a bakery mix plant. The Warehouse Segment's snack cakes and frozen breads, and rolls are sold to customer's warehouses, and delivered through frozen and non-frozen contract carriers. The Warehouse Segment's Company-owned brands include Mrs. Freshley's, European Bakers and Broad Street Bakery. The Warehouse Segment supplies national and regional restaurants, institutions and foodservice distributors, and retail in-store bakeries with frozen bakery products. It also sells packaged bakery products to wholesale distributors for sale to a range of food outlets. It sells packaged bakery snack cakes to customers who distribute the products across the nation through various channels of distribution, including mass merchandisers, supermarkets, vending outlets and convenience stores. In certain circumstances, the Company enters into co-packing arrangements with retail customers or other food companies.
