Ferro Corporation (Ferro), incorporated on October 13, 1919, produces performance materials for a range of manufacturers in diversified industries throughout the world. The Company uses inorganic and organic chemical processes, polymer science and materials science to develop and produce these performance materials. It operates, approximately 33 facilities around the world that manufacture performance materials and performance chemicals, as of December 31, 2014.

The Company’s performance materials include frits, porcelain and other glass enamels, glazes, stains, decorating colors, pigments, inks, polishing materials, specialty dielectrics, electronic glasses, and other specialty coatings. Ferro operates through four segments: Tile Coating Systems, Porcelain Enamel, Performance Colors and Glass, and Pigments, Powders and Oxides. Ferro’s products are used in a variety of product applications in markets including appliances, household furnishings, automobiles, industrial products, building and renovation, and packaging.

As part of particle engineering, the Company designs and produces small particles made of a variety of materials. The Company disperses these materials within liquid, paste or gel formulations. Ferro develops and produces color pigments and glass-based coatings and is involved in developing products and processes. It also develops products and processes that involve the interface between layers and the surface properties of materials. It also develops and manufactures combinations of materials that deliver specific performance characteristics designed to work within customers’ particular products and manufacturing processes. The Company’s products are used in a variety of product applications in markets including appliances, household furnishings, automobiles, industrial products, building and renovation, packaging and electronics.

The company’s products are used as coatings on its customers’ products, such as glazes and decorations on tile, glass and dinnerware. Other products are supplied to customers as powders that are used to manufacture electronic components and other products. The Company’s customers include manufacturers of ceramic tile, appliances, construction materials, automobile parts, glass, bottles, and wall coverings. It sells its products directly to its customers. A portion of its business uses indirect sales channels, such as agents and distributors, to deliver products to market. The Company produces its products in Europe-Middle East, the United States, the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America.

The Company uses various raw materials, including metal oxides, other inorganic materials, energy, and precious and non-precious metals. Metal oxides include aluminum oxide, cobalt oxide, nickel oxide, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and zirconium dioxide. The other inorganic materials include boron acid, clay, feldspar, fiberglass, lithium, silica and zircon. Its precious and non-precious metals include bismuth, chrome, copper, gold and silver, and its polymers include polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and unsaturated polyester. Its energy raw materials include electricity and natural gas.
