Guess?, Inc., incorporated on August 3, 1993, designs, markets, distributes and licenses a lifestyle collection of apparel and accessories for men, women and children. The Company operates through five segments: Americas Retail, Europe, Asia, Americas Wholesale and Licensing. Its product lines include a range of clothing, including jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, shorts, blouses, shirts, jackets, knitwear and intimate apparel. Its apparel is marketed under various trademarks, including GUESS, GUESS?, GUESS U.S.A., GUESS Jeans, GUESS? and Triangle Design, MARCIANO, Question Mark and Triangle Design, a stylized G and a stylized M, GUESS Kids, Baby GUESS, YES, G by GUESS, GUESS by MARCIANO and Gc. It also grants licenses to manufacture and distribute a range of products, including eyewear, watches, handbags, footwear, kids' and infants' apparel, outerwear, swimwear, fragrance, jewelry and other fashion accessories.
The Company's products are sold through direct-to-consumer, wholesale and licensing distribution channels. The direct-to-consumer network is made up of both directly operated brick-and-mortar retail stores, as well as integrated e-commerce sites. It directly operates a total of approximately 450 stores in the United States and Canada, and over 380 stores outside of the United States and Canada, as well as over 190 smaller-sized concessions in Asia and Europe. It operates retail Websites in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Korea and China.
The Company also sells through both domestic and international wholesale distribution channels, as well as licensee operated retail stores and concessions. In North America, its wholesale customers consist primarily of department stores, including Macy's, Bloomingdales, Liverpool and The Bay, and specialty retailers and upscale boutiques. In Europe, its products are sold in stores ranging from department stores, such as El Corte Ingles, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps to small upscale multi-brand boutiques. Through its foreign subsidiaries and its network of international distributors, the Company's products are also available in various cities across Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Central and South America. Its licensees and distributors operate approximately 800 stores across the world, as well as over 250 smaller-sized licensee operated concessions located in Asia.
The Americas Retail segment includes the Company's retail and e-commerce operations in North and Central America and its retail operations in South America. In its Americas Retail segment, the Company sells its products through a network of directly operated retail and factory outlet stores in the Americas, and through its online stores. It directly operates retail stores in the United States and Canada, including over 150 GUESS? Retail Stores; over 10 GUESS? Retail Accessories Stores; over 150 GUESS? Factory Outlet Stores; over 30 GUESS? Factory Accessories Stores; over 60 G by GUESS Stores, and over 40 MARCIANO Stores.
The Company's United States and Canada GUESS? retail stores carries an assortment of men's and women's GUESS? merchandise (and women's MARCIANO merchandise in select locations), including its licensed product categories. GUESS? Retail Stores occupied approximately 785,000 square feet and ranged in size from 1,500 to 13,500 square feet. Its United States and Canada GUESS? retail accessories stores sell GUESS? and MARCIANO labeled accessory products. GUESS? Retail Accessories Stores occupied approximately 29,000 square feet and ranged in size from 1,500 to 2,500 square feet. G by GUESS Stores occupied approximately 317,000 square feet and ranged in size from 4,000 to 7,000 square feet.
MARCIANO stores in the United States and Canada offers a fashion-forward women's collection. MARCIANO Stores occupied approximately 119,000 square feet and ranged in size from 2,000 to 6,500 square feet. It also directly operates approximately 40 stores in Mexico and over eight stores in Brazil through its joint ventures, which consists of approximately 30 GUESS? retail stores, over 10 GUESS? factory outlet stores and over four GUESS? retail accessories stores. The Americas Retail segment also includes its retail Websites in the United States, Canada and Mexico, including www.guess.com, www.gbyguess.com, www.guessbymarciano.com, www.marciano.com, www.guessfactory.com, www.guesskids.com, www.guess.ca, www.gbyguess.ca, www.guessbymarciano.ca, www.guessfactory.ca and www.guess.mx.
The Europe segment includes the Company's wholesale, retail and e-commerce operations in Europe and the Middle East. The Company's European wholesale business uses regional distributors and agents to distribute its products primarily to independent multi-brand boutiques. Its products are also sold directly to department stores, such as El Corte Ingles, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. It has showrooms in various cities, such as Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Florence, Lugano, Munich and Paris. It sells both the Company's apparel and certain accessories products under its GUESS? and MARCIANO brand concepts through its wholesale channel, operating primarily through approximately two seasons, Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. Its European retail network consists of a mix of directly operated and licensee operated GUESS? and MARCIANO retail and outlet stores, GUESS? Accessories retail and outlet stores, GUESS? Footwear stores, GUESS? Kids stores and Gc stores. The segment operates approximately 590 stores, including over 280 stores, which are operated directly and over 310 stores, which are operated by licensees.
The Asia segment includes the Company's retail, e-commerce and wholesale operations in Asia. The Asia retail business includes both licensee and directly operated stores, including GUESS?, GUESS? Kids, GUESS? Accessories, GUESS? Underwear, G by GUESS, Gc and GUESS? Footwear stores. The segment operates approximately 490 stores, including approximately 50 stores, which are operated directly and over 440 stores, which are operated by licensees or distributors.
The Americas Wholesale segment includes the Company's wholesale operations in the Americas. In its North American Wholesale segment, the Company sells its products through wholesale channels in North America and to third-party distributors based in Central and South America. The Company's North American Wholesale customers consist primarily of department stores, specialty retailers and boutiques. The segment's products are sold to consumers through approximately 810 doors in the United States and Canada, as well as through its customer's e-commerce sites.
The Licensing segment includes the licensing operations of the Company around the world. The segment has approximately 10 domestic and international licenses that includes eyewear, watches, handbags, footwear, kids' and infants' apparel, outerwear, swimwear, fragrance, jewelry and other fashion accessories, and includes licenses for the manufacture of GUESS? branded products in markets, which includes Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Central America, North America and South America.
