Randgold Resources Limited, incorporated on August 4, 1995, is engage in the exploration and development of gold deposits in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Company’s activities are focused on West and Central Africa. In Mali, the Company has an 80% controlling interest in the Loulo mine through Somilo. The Company also has an 80% controlling interest in the Gounkoto mine through Societe des Mines de Gounkoto S.A. The Company owns 50% of Morila Limited, which in turn owns 80% of Morila SA, the owner of the Morila mine in Mali. The Company also owns 83.25% controlling interest in the Massawa project in Senegal. The Company’s Gounkoto is located approximately 25 kilometers south of Loulo’s plant. The Tongon project is located within the Nielle exploitation permit in the north of Cote d’Ivoire, approximately 55 kilometers south of the border with Mali.
During the year ended December 31, 2012, the Company’s Loulo mine produced 219,745 ounces of gold. As of December 31, 2012, Morila has produced more than 6.2Moz of gold. During the year ended December 31, 2012, Tongon project produced 210,615 ounces of gold. The Kibali project is a gold development property which covers an area of 1,836 square kilometers on the Moto Goldfields in the north east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Massawa project is located approximately 700 kilometers south east of the capital city of Dakar and some 90 kilometers due west of its Loulo mine in Mali. It owns 83.25% of the project with a local company holding 6.75%.
