Hyatt Hotels Corporation, incorporated on August 4, 2004, is a global hospitality company. The Company develops, owns, operates, manages, franchises, licenses or provides services to a portfolio of properties, consisting of full service hotels, select service hotels, resorts and other properties, including timeshare, fractional and other forms of residential and vacation properties. The Company operates through four segments: owned and leased hotels; Americas management and franchising (Americas); ASPAC management and franchising (ASPAC), and EAME/SW Asia management and franchising (EAME/SW Asia). The owned and leased hotels segment consists of its owned and leased full service and select service hotels. The Americas segment consists of its management and franchising of properties located in the United States, Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. The ASPAC segment consists of its management and franchising of properties located in Southeast Asia, as well as China, Australia, South Korea, Japan and Micronesia. The EAME/SW Asia segment consists of its management and franchising of properties located in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Nepal.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company's full service hotels and resorts operated under seven brands: Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Andaz, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt and The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The Company's select service brands include Hyatt Place and Hyatt House. Its all-inclusive resort brands are Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara. It also manages, provides services to or licenses its trademarks with respect to residential ownership units that are adjacent to a Hyatt-branded full service hotel. Park Hyatt hotels provide business and leisure guests with accommodations. Park Hyatt hotels feature guestrooms, meeting and special event spaces for smaller groups, food, wine and art programs and signature restaurants. Grand Hyatt hotels are hotels in gateway cities and resort destinations. Grand Hyatt hotels provide business and leisure travelers with accommodations, restaurants, bars, spas and fitness centers, as well as business and meeting facilities. Hyatt Regency hotels offer a range of services and facilities to serve the needs of meeting planners, business travelers and leisure guests. Hyatt Regency convention hotels feature meeting and conference facilities of all sizes. Hyatt hotels are smaller-sized properties located in diverse business and leisure areas. Hyatt hotels accommodate business and leisure travelers, as well as smaller scale business meetings and social gatherings.
Andaz hotels' signature elements include Andaz Lounges, Andaz Studios and Andaz Hosts. Hyatt Centric hotels are full service lifestyle hotels. The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is designed to provide a portfolio of new and existing properties ranging from historic urban gems and hotels to boutique properties and resorts. Hyatt Place hotels offer guestrooms, around the clock Gallery Menu and the Coffee to Cocktails Bar, which features specialty coffees, beer, wine and spirits. Hyatt Place hotels cater to business travelers, as well as leisure guests and families. Hyatt Place hotels are also suited to serve small meetings and events. Hyatt House hotels offer services, amenities and communal spaces. Hyatt House hotels cater to extended stay business travelers, as well as leisure travelers and families. Hyatt House hotels are also suited to serve small meetings and events. Hyatt Ziva all-inclusive resorts are designed for vacationing guests of all ages and offer a range of onsite activities and opportunities to explore the destinations in which the properties are located. Hyatt Ziva resorts feature a range of food and beverage outlets with an emphasis on authentic cuisine and are able to cater to social or business groups with varied meeting facilities. Hyatt Zilara adult-only all-inclusive resorts offer a range of food and beverage services. The resorts offer social activities and live entertainment, as well as a range of meeting spaces. Hyatt Residence Club provides members with vacation ownership opportunities in residential-style properties with the Hyatt brand. Hyatt Residence Club members can choose to occupy their vacation home, exchange time among Hyatt Residence Club locations, trade their time for Hyatt Gold Passport points or travel within the Hyatt system. Alternatively, members can exchange their intervals for stays at other properties participating within Interval International's program.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company's hotel portfolio around the world consisted of 657 hotels (171,133 rooms), including 281 managed properties (92,021 rooms); 304 franchised properties (50,417 rooms); 35 owned properties (18,013 rooms) (including one consolidated hospitality venture), one capital leased property (171 rooms) and seven operating leased properties (2,411 rooms), and 23 managed properties and six franchised properties owned or leased by unconsolidated hospitality ventures (8,100 rooms). As of December 31, 2016, the Company's property portfolio around the world also included six all-inclusive resorts (2,401 rooms); 16 vacation ownership properties (1,038 units), and 19 residential properties (2,546 units), which consisted of branded residences and serviced apartments. The Company manages all of the serviced apartments and branded residential units that participate in a rental program with an adjacent Hyatt-branded hotel.
