Intelsat S.A., incorporated on July 18, 2011, operates in satellite services business. The Company provides satellite services to its communications customers around the world. It provides communications services to media companies, fixed and wireless telecommunications operators, data networking service providers for enterprise and mobile applications in the air and on the seas, multinational corporations and Internet service providers (ISPs). The Company is also a provider of commercial satellite communication services to the United States Government and other select military organizations and their contractors. The Company focuses on business-to-business services, indirectly enable enterprise, government and consumer applications through its customers. The Company has operations in North America, Europe, Latin America and Caribbean, Africa and Middle East, and Asia Pacific.
The Company provides satellite capacity and related communications services for the transmission of video, data and voice signals. The Company's customer contracts offer four service types: transponder services, managed services, channel services, and mobile satellite services and other. The Company also performs satellite-related consulting services and technical services for various third parties, such as operating satellites for other satellite owners. As of December 31, 2016, the Company's Galaxy 13 satellite provided high definition neighborhood in North America, and its Galaxy fleet distributed approximately 325 high definition channels, and the Company distributed over 5,600 television (TV) channels, including 900 high definition channels, on a global basis. It delivers programming to over 45 million subscribers and supporting over 30 direct to home (DTH) platforms around the world, including AT&T DIRECTV in Latin America, Orion Express in Russia, Telefonica in Brazil, MultiChoice in Africa, and Canal+ in multiple regions.
The Company is a provider of services used in video contribution managed occasional use services, supporting coverage of events for news and sports organizations. The Company's satellite capacity and terrestrial network consists of leased fiber, teleports and data networking platforms, and enables the transmission of video and data to and from virtually any point on the surface of the earth. Its IntelsatOne managed services, including its IntelsatOne Flex service, involves regional shared data networking platforms at its teleports that are connected to approximately 40 of its satellites. The Company provides satellite capacity for satellite-based private data networks, including very small aperture terminal (VSAT) networks.
