Intel Corporation, incorporated in 1968, is a semiconductor chip maker. The Company is engaged in developing advanced integrated digital technology products, primarily integrated circuits, for industries, such as computing and communications. Its primary component-level products include microprocessors, chipsets, motherboards, wired and wireless connectivity. The Company offers products at various levels of integration, allowing its customers the capability to create computing and communications systems. As of December 27, 2008, the Company was mainly organized in two segments: Digital Enterprise Group (DEG) and Mobility Group (MG). In July 2008, Impinj, Inc. announced the acquisition of Intel Corporation’s radio frequency identification (RFID) operation, a business created by the Company’s new business initiatives (NBI) incubator, and which developed the R1000 RFID reader chip. During the fiscal year ended December 27, 2008 (fiscal 2008), the Company completed the divestiture of its NOR flash memory business. In July 2009, Intel Corporation completed the acquisition of Wind River Systems, Inc. As a wholly owned Intel subsidiary, Wind River will continue to develop commercial-grade software platforms that support multiple hardware architectures that are suitable for the needs of its many embedded and mobile customers.
Digital Enterprise Group
The DEG’s products are incorporated into desktop and nettop computers, enterprise computing servers, workstations, a range of embedded applications and other products that help make up the infrastructure for the Internet. DEG’s products include microprocessors and related chipsets, and motherboards designed for the desktop and enterprise computing market segments; microprocessors, chipsets and other components for communications infrastructure equipment, such as network processors, wired connectivity devices, and products for network and server storage.
The Company’s desktop microprocessor offerings include the Intel Core i7 processor Extreme Edition, Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor, Intel Core i7 processor, Intel Celeron Dual-Core processor, Intel Core2 Extreme processor, Intel Celeron processor, Intel Coretm2 Quad processor, Intel Atom processor and Intel Core2 Duo processor. The Company offers desktop microprocessors from the high-end Intel Core i7 processor Extreme Edition-a quad-core processor based on its Intel Core microarchitecture designed for processor-intensive tasks in demanding multitasking environments to the Intel Celeron processor. In addition, it offers the Intel Atom processor designed for Internet-focused devices. The related chipsets for its desktop microprocessor offerings primarily include Intel 4 Series Express Chipsets, Intel 3 Series Express Chipsets and Intel 900 Series Express Chipsets.
For business desktop personal computers (PCs), the Company offers the Intel Core2 Duo processor with vPro technology and the Intel Core2 Quad processor with vPro technology, which are designed to provide security and manageability. During fiscal 2008, the Company’s product offering included The Intel Core i7 processor family, including the Intel Core i7 processor Extreme Edition; Intel Atom processors; Intel 4 Series Express Chipsets, and Desktop motherboards. The Company’s server and workstation microprocessor offerings include the Intel Xeon processor and the Intel Itanium processor. Its Intel Xeon processor family of products supports a range of entry-level to high-end technical and commercial computing applications, such as Internet protocol (IP) data centers. Workstations are used for applications, such as engineering design, digital content creation, and high-performance computing. The Company offers microprocessors and chipsets for embedded applications, and components, such as network processors-for communications infrastructure equipment.
Mobility Group
The Mobility Group’s products include microprocessors and related chipsets designed for the notebook and netbook market segment, wireless connectivity products and energy-efficient products designed for the mobile Internet devices (MID) and ultra-mobile market segment. It also offers Intel Centrino and Intel Centrino 2 processor technologies based on its microprocessors, chipsets and wireless network connections.
The Company’s mobile microprocessor offerings include the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor, Intel Celeron Dual-Core processor, Intel Coretm2 Quad mobile processor, Intel Celeron M processor, Intel Coretm2 Duo mobile processor, Intel Celeron processor, Intel Coretm2 Solo mobile processor and Intel Atom processor. It offers mobile microprocessors for notebooks from the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor designed for gaming to the Intel Celeron processor. In addition, it offers the Intel Atom processor designed for netbooks, MIDs and ultra-mobile PCs. The related chipsets for mobile microprocessor offerings primarily include Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipsets and Mobile Intel 900 Series Express Chipsets.
Other Products
Intel Corporation offers NAND flash memory products primarily used in memory cards and system-level applications, such as solid-state drives. These products are available in densities ranging from 1 gigabyte to 16 gigabits. Its NAND flash memory products are manufactured by IM Flash Technologies, LLC (IMFT) using 34 nanometer or 50 nanometer process technologies. In fiscal 2008, the Company’s product offerings include 80-gigabits and 160- gigabits solid-state, drives-based on NAND flash technology, designed for laptop and desktop computers, and high-performance, 32- gigabits and 64- gigabits solid-state, drives-based on NAND flash technology, designed for use in servers, workstations and storage systems.
The Digital Home Group offers products including system on chip (SoC) designs, for use in consumer electronics devices designed to access and share Internet, broadcast, optical media and personal content through a variety of linked digital devices within the home. In addition, the Company offers components for consumer electronics devices, such as digital televisions, high-definition media players and set-top boxes. The Digital Health Group offers technology-enabled products for healthcare providers, as well as for use in personal healthcare. In fiscal 2008, it introduced the Intel Health Guide, a personal health system designed to allow clinicians to remotely monitor and manage patients’ care through an online interface.
