Kips Bay Medical, Inc., incorporated in May 1, 2007, is a medical device company focused on developing, manufacturing and commercializing its external saphenous vein support technology (eSVS MESH) for use in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. The Company’s eSVS MESH is a nitinol mesh sleeve that, when placed over a saphenous vein graft during CABG surgery, is designed to improve the structural characteristics and performance of the vein graft. The eSVS MESH is a kink-resistant extravascular tubular prosthesis made of knitted nickel/titanium, or nitinol, wire mesh.
The Company has completed enrollment in a 90 patient multi-center clinical trial conducted outside the United States. The primary effectiveness endpoint of this trial is statistical non-inferiority of the patency of eSVS MESH vessels as compared to control vessels at nine-months post-implant. The Company completed enrollment in this trial, in July 2009, and as of March 1, 2010, all 90 patients had been implanted for six months or more, 83 patients have been implanted for nine months or more, and 50 patients have been implanted for 12 months or more.
