Quaker Chemical Corporation (Quaker) develops, produces and markets a range of formulated chemical specialty products for various heavy industrial and manufacturing applications and, in addition, offers and markets chemical management services (CMS). The Company operates in three segments: Metalworking process chemicals, Coatings and Other chemical products. The Metalworking process chemicals segment includes industrial process fluids for various heavy industrial and manufacturing applications. Coatings segment includes temporary and permanent coatings for metal and concrete products and chemical milling maskants. Its Other chemical products segment includes other various chemical products. In July 2012, the Company acquired NP Coil Dexter Industries S.r.l.
Quaker’s principal products and services include: rolling lubricants (used by manufacturers of steel in the hot and cold rolling of steel and by manufacturers of aluminum in the hot rolling of aluminum); corrosion preventives (used by steel and metalworking customers to protect metal during manufacture, storage, and shipment); metal finishing compounds (used to prepare metal surfaces for special treatments, such as galvanizing and tin plating and to prepare metal for further processing); machining and grinding compounds (used by metalworking customers in cutting, shaping, and grinding metal parts; forming compounds (used to facilitate the drawing and extrusion of metal products); hydraulic fluids (used by steel, metalworking, and other customers to operate hydraulically activated equipment); technology for the removal of hydrogen sulfide in various industrial applications; chemical milling maskants for the aerospace industry and temporary and permanent coatings for metal and concrete products; construction products, such as sealants and protective coatings; specialty greases; die casting lubricants, and programs to provide chemical management services. During the year ended December 31, 2012, Quaker’s five largest customers accounted for approximately 19% of its consolidated net sales with the largest customer (Arcelor-Mittal Group) accounting for approximately 9% of consolidated net sales.
Metalworking Process Chemicals consists of industrial process fluids for various heavy industrial and manufacturing applications. The Company’s coatings segment, consist products that provide temporary and permanent coatings for metal and concrete products and chemical milling maskants. Other Chemical Products segment consists of sulfur removal products for industrial gas streams sold by the Company’s Q2 Technologies joint venture.
