Liberty Global PLC, formerly Liberty Global, Inc., incorporated on January 29, 2013, is an international cable company with operations in 14 countries. The Company’s tripleplay services are provided through networks and technology platforms that connect approximately 25 million customers subscribing to over 47 million television, broadband Internet and telephony services. The Company’s consumer brands include Virgin Media, UPC, Unitymedia, Kabel BW, Telenet and VTR. The Company’s operations also include Chellomedia, the Company's content division, Liberty Global Business Services, a commercial division and Liberty Global Ventures, its investment fund. In June 2013, Liberty Global Inc completed the acquisition of Virgin Media Inc (Virgin Media). Effective July 25, 2013, Liberty Global PLC raised its interest to 28.5% from 19.75% by acquiring an 8.75% interest in Ziggo NV.
Europe
The Company operates broadband networks in 11 countries in Europe. The Company is a cable television operator in most of its European markets. It provides video, broadband Internet and voice services under the UPC brand. Its UPC countries are Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Switzerland. In Germany, the Company also operates under the Unitymedia and Kabel BW brands. In addition, it has a controlling interest in publicly traded Telenet in Belgium. Europe is also the home of Chellomedia, its multimedia content provider, UPC DTH, UPC Business and the Digital Media Centre, Liberty Global’s European distribution center and the source of digital television for millions of households in Europe, in and outside of the Company’s footprint.
Latin America
In Latin America, the Company operates next generation broadband networks in Chile and Puerto Rico. In Chile, its video, broadband Internet, and voice services are provided by VTR GlobalCom S.A. (VTR), of which it owns 80%, and in Puerto Rico by Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico LLC (Liberty Puerto Rico), of which it owns 60%. The Company also has ownership interests in two Latin American content businesses, which are managed by Chellomedia: Chello Latin America, LLC and Pramer S.C.A. (79% owned subsidiary), both of which produce and distribute programming to the Latin American market.
Chellomedia is the content division of the Company and an international producer and distributor of television (TV) channels and a provider of advanced digital services, such as ad sales and broadcast solutions to a portfolio of international channel operators. The Chellomedia division (Chellomedia) operates its programming businesses in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. It also owns joint venture interests in certain programming businesses and operates a series of these on behalf of the partners. Chellomedia produces and markets a number of distributed multi-territory thematic channels in over 124 countries and in over 27 languages. It owns 48 of these channels with other channels held by joint ventures with unrelated third parties, including CBS Studios International, Cyfrowy Polsat SA, Zon Multimedia and A&E Televisions Networks. In addition, Chellomedia owns and manages a Digital Media Center (DMC) in Amsterdam.
Liberty Global Ventures is a global investment fund owned by the Company. The Company’s portfolio consists of companies in the content, technology, Internet and distribution space. These investments are managed by a dedicated team of professionals located in Denver, Palo Alto, London, and Amsterdam Liberty Global Business Services is the B2B division of Liberty Global. Business Services is responsible for business to business operations in 11 European countries: Austria, Belgium,Czech Republic, Germany - Kabel BW, Germany - Unitymedia, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands,Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Switzerland. The Company offers a range of voice, broadband Internet, video, and data services to business customers across our local fiber-based networks. Customers range from Small Office Home Office (SoHo) generally fewer than 20 employees to medium and large enterprises (MLE), as well as Wholesale customers. The Business Services brands include UPC Business, UPC Biznes, UPC Cablecom Business, Unitymedia Business, Kabel BW Business, Telenet for Business, and UPC Wholesale. UPC DTH S.a.r.l. (UPC DTH) specializes in providing television programming delivered through satellite to consumers in Central Europe. The Company services 732,700 subscribers in Hungary under the brand name UPC Direct, in Czech Republic and Slovakia under the brand name freeSAT and in Romania under the FocusSat brand.
