The Company operates through three segments: KATE SPADE North America, KATE SPADE International and Adelington Design Group. The KATE SPADE North America segment consists of the Company's kate spade new york and JACK SPADE brands in North America. The KATE SPADE International segment consists of the Company's kate spade new york and JACK SPADE brands in international markets, which operates principally in Japan, Asia (excluding Japan), Europe and Latin America. The Adelington Design Group segment primarily consists of arrangements to supply jewelry for the LIZ CLAIBORNE and MONET brands. In addition, the Adelington Design Group segment serves J.C. Penney Corporation, Inc. (JCPenney) through supplier agreements for the LIZ CLAIBORNE and MONET jewelry lines.
The Company's kate spade new york brand offers fashion products for women and children, as well as home products, under the kate spade new york trademark. The kate spade new york collection includes the Madison Avenue, Broome Street and on purpose labels. The kate spade new york brand product line includes handbags, small leather goods, jewelry and apparel along with licensed products, including footwear, fragrances, swimwear, watches, children's wear, tech accessories, optics, tabletop products, legwear, fashion accessories, furniture, bedding, housewares, table linens, loungewear, pillows, lighting, activewear and stationery.
The Company's products are sold primarily in the United States and Canada through specialty retail and outlet stores and select specialty retail and upscale department stores; specialty retail and outlet operations and licensed children's wear partner operated stores in Japan; specialty retail, outlet and concession stores and select upscale wholesale accounts in Europe; kate spade new york e commerce Websites; joint ventures in China and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and a network of distributors in Latin America, the Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Thailand. The Company's JACK SPADE brand offers fashion products for men, including briefcases, travel bags, small leather goods, fashion accessories and apparel under the JACK SPADE trademark. JACK SPADE products are sold primarily through its JACK SPADE e commerce Website, and through department stores.
The Company operates specialty retail stores under the kate spade new york trademark, consisting of retail stores within the United States and outside the United States (primarily in Japan, Europe and Canada). It also operates outlet stores under the kate spade new york trademark, consisting of outlet stores within the United States and outside the United States Outside of North America (primarily in Japan and Europe), it operates concession stores in select retail stores, which are either owned or leased by a third-party department store or specialty store retailer. As of December 31, 2016, it operated 98 the United States Specialty Retail Stores; 35 Foreign Specialty Retail Stores; 65 the United States Outlet Stores; 17 Foreign Outlet Stores, and 54 Concessions.
The Company competes with Burberry, Coach, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Tory Burch.
