MedAssets, Inc. (MedAssets), incorporated on June 24, 1999, provides technology-enabled products and services to healthcare organizations, including hospitals, health systems, non-acute healthcare providers, payers, other service providers and product manufacturers. The Company operates its business through two business segments: Spend and Clinical Resource Management (SCM) and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). The Company’s technology-enabled solutions are delivered through the Company-hosted software or software as a service (SaaS) or Web-based applications, supported by implementation, consulting and outsourced services and consulting, as well as enterprise-wide sales and client management support. Its Web-based applications employ cloud computing by using the Internet to deploy the Company’s solutions across decentralized health care organizations, providing standardization and compliance. The Company’s client base includes around 4,500 acute care hospitals and 123,000 ancillary or non-acute provider locations.

Spend and Clinical Resource Management Segment

The Company’s SCM segment delivers market insight, performance improvement advisory and cost management capabilities to healthcare providers. The Company provides cost management services, supply chain analytics and data capabilities. It also helps to improve care processes and reduce care variations through its clinical and process improvement consulting services, workforce optimization solutions and business analytics and intelligence tools. The Company’s national portfolio of around 2,300 contracts with approximately 1,200 manufacturers, distributors and other vendors provides its customers with access to a range of products and services. The products and services include medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, laboratory supplies, capital equipment, information technology, food and nutritional products, and purchased services. The Company offers capabilities that help clients to extend capital equipment life cycle and gain fiscal control of the building process from contracting and subcontracting, to interior design and equipment planning. The Company offers purchased services, bulk buy and contract catalog. The Company offers SCM services, including market intelligence and consulting, clinical resource and utilization management, outsourced/embedded management services, procurement solutions, workforce management, process improvement consulting and comprehensive service line improvement. The components of performance analytics and data management tools include market analytics, service line analytics, cost analytics, spend analytics and strategic information services, procure-to-pay, client master item file services and decision support services.

Revenue Cycle Management Segment

The Company’s RCM segment provides revenue cycle management solutions to healthcare providers, primarily hospitals and health systems. The Company provides SaaS or Web-based software and technology-enabled services for healthcare organizations through patient access and financial responsibility, clinical documentation, charge capture and revenue integrity, pricing analysis, claims processing and denials management, payor contract management, extended business office revenue recovery, accounts receivable services and outsourcing. The Company’s revenue cycle services include revenue recovery and accounts receivable management, comprehensive and outsourced services and episode of care consulting services. The Company’s chargemaster contains around 385,000 distinct charges.
