Millicom International Cellular S.A. (Millicom), incorporated on June 16, 1992, is a global telecommunications company with mobile telephony operations. The Company also operates various combinations of fixed telephony, cable and broadband businesses in five countries in Central America. As at December 31, 2010, the Company had 14 mobile operations in 14 countries focusing on emerging markets in Central America, South America, Africa and Asia. Millicom operates its mobile businesses in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras in Central America; in Bolivia, Colombia and Paraguay in South America; in Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Mauritius, Rwanda, Senegal and Tanzania in Africa; and in Laos in Asia. As at December 31, 2010, the countries where it had mobile operations had a combined population of approximately 267 million. In March 2011, the Company sold its 74.1% share of its operations in Laos to Vimpelcom Ltd. In July 2012, its cable business in Costa Rica, which has been operating under the brand name Amnet, has been rebranded to Tigo.
The description of its mobile operations is divided into five regions: Central America consists of Millicom's mobile operations in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras; South America, Millicom's mobile operations comprise Bolivia, Colombia and Paraguay; Africa, Millicom's mobile operations comprise Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Mauritius, Rwanda, Senegal and Tanzania; Asia, Millicom's mobile operations comprise Laos, and Cable, Millicom's cable, broadband, television, fixed telephony and Corporate data business across Central America.
Central America
As at December 31, 2010, the Company’s Central American licenses covered approximately 28 million people. Millicom has a 100% equity interest in Telemovil El Salvador, S.A. Millicom accounts for this operation as a subsidiary. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in El Salvador comprised of 937 cell sites. Millicom has a 55% equity interest in Comunicaciones Celulares, S.A. (Comcel). As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Guatemala comprised of 2,541 cell sites and covered 99% of the total population. Millicom has a 66.67% equity interest in Telefonica Celular S.A. (Celtel). On July 1, 2010 Millicom reached agreement with Proempres whereby Proempres granted Millicom an unconditional call option for the next five years for its 33% stake in Celtel. Comcel and Celtel operates a global system for mobile communications/general packet radio service/ enhanced data for global system for global communications evolution (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) and a third generation/ high-speed downlink packet access (3G/ HSDP).
South America
Millicom has a 100% equity interest in Telefonica Celular de Bolivia S.A. (Telecel Bolivia). As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Bolivia comprised 908 cell sites and covered 54% of the total population. Telefonica Celular del Paraguay S.A (Telecel Paraguay) is 100% owned by Millicom. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Paraguay comprised 866 cell sites and covered 94% of the total population.
Africa
Millicom's Africa cluster consists of its mobile operations in Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Mauritius, Rwanda, Senegal and Tanzania.Its African licenses covered approximately 173 million people as at December 31, 2010. Millicom Tchad S.A. (Millicom Tchad) is 100% owned by Millicom. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Chad comprised 360 cell sites and covered 73% of the total population. Oasis S.P.R.L. is 100% owned by Millicom. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) comprised 760 cell sites (of which 212 are off), and covered 75% of the Kinshasa Bas-Congo Region population. Millicom Ghana Company Limited (Millicom Ghana) is 100% owned by Millicom. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Ghana comprised 801 cell sites and covered 72% of the total population. Millicom has a 50% equity interest in Emtel Limited (Emtel). Emtel owns licenses for mobile services, international long-distance and Internet services. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Mauritius comprised 269 cell sites and covered 91% of the total population. Tigo Rwanda S.A. (Tigo Rwanda) is 87.5% owned by Millicom. As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Rwanda comprised 171 cell sites and covered 86% of the population.

As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Senegal comprised 589 cell sites and covered 69% of the total population. Millicom owns 100% of MIC Tanzania Limited (MIC Tanzania). As at December 31, 2010, Millicom's network in Tanzania comprised 1,057 cell sites and covered 60% of the total population.
Amnet
Amnet provides analog and digital cable television (TV), broadband Internet, telephony, voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) and data transmission. 82% of its network is composed of a two-way capability system bandwidth of 750 Megahertz. With the addition of Amnet to Millicom's existing mobile operations within Central America, Millicom started offering bundled services as a quadruple player in the telecommunications industry. Amnet provides cable TV services in Costa Rica. It also serves the Internet market together with RACSA (a subsidiary of ICE group), the state-owned telecommunications company, which holds the Internet license. In El Salvador Amnet provides broadband and telephony services. The Company offers the full quadruple play bundled service packages: cable, broadband, fixed telephony and mobile services, providing its client base with value-added services. Amnet provides a number of services with corporate VOIP, Internet protocol- private branch exchange (IP-PBX) video conferencing and IP. Through private lines, Amnet supplies circuits between two or more client's offices.
The Company competes with America Movil, MTN, Bharti, France Telecom, Vodafone, Telefonica and Digicel.
