Momenta Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Momenta), incorporated on May 17, 2001, is a biotechnology company with a product pipeline of mixture generic drugs. This pipeline is derived from its technology platform for the structural analysis of mixture drugs. M-Enoxaparin is designed to be a technology-enabled generic version of Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection), a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) used to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and to support the treatment of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). This drug is a mixture of polysaccharide chains derived from sourced heparin. Its second generic product candidate is M356, a technology-enabled generic version of Copaxone (glatiramer acetate injection), a drug that is indicated for the reduction of the frequency of relapses in patients with Relapse-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS). In addition to its two generic product candidates, M178 and Glycoprotein Research Program are focused on developing generic or follow-on versions of marketed therapeutic proteins, which are derived from natural or cell-based manufacturing processes.
M-Enoxaparin
M-Enoxaparin is designed to be a generic version of Lovenox. Lovenox is a prescribed LMWH used for the prevention and treatment of DVT and to support the treatment of ACS.
M356
M356 is designed to be a generic version of Copaxone (glatiramer acetate injection), a drug consisting of a mixture of polypeptide chains. Copaxone is indicated for the reduction of the frequency of relapses in patients with RRMS. Copaxone and several interferon beta products are among the products marketed for treating multiple sclerosis.
M118
M118 provides baseline anticoagulant therapy for patients diagnosed with ACS who are medically managed and who may or may not require coronary intervention in order to treat their condition, as well as for patients diagnosed with stable angina who require a coronary intervention. M118 was designed utilizing its analytical methods and technology to address multiple desirable clinical attributes of anticoagulation therapy for ACS in a single agent. These attributes include, among others, inhibition of the coagulation cascade, monitorability, reversibility and predictable pharmacokinetics.
Glycoproteins
Glycoproteins are proteins, to which sugar molecules are attached. Glycoprotein drugs include erythropoietin, blood clotting factors and interferon beta. The Company is applying its technology to the development of generic or biosimilar glycoprotein drugs. Its glycoprotein program is focused on extending its technology for the analysis of sugars to glycoproteins. The Company refers to this product candidate as M178.
