MEASAT Global Berhad is an investment holding company. The Company, together with its subsidiaries, is engaged in the operation of a regional satellite network and investment holding. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company utilised the MEASAT-3 (M3) satellite and expanded the reach of the network to over 110 counties. In 2009, it launched M3a, providing an additional 24 transponders at the same orbital location as M3. It previously operated satellites at two obital slots, 91.5 degree east and 148.0 degree east. It operationalised a third orbital slot at 46.0 degree east in 2008 to provide satellite capacity into the African market. With the launch of M3a, the Company will operate a total of 96 transponders (54 C-Band, 42 Ku-Band) across three obital slots. It has the rights to a total of 16 orbital slots worldwide. In 2008, the Company expanded the M3 video distribution platform with contracts for 12 new standard definition channels and three new high definition channels.
