National Presto Industries, Inc. (National Presto), incorporated on November 8, 1905, manufactures pressure cookers and canners, ammunition and private label adult incontinence products. The Company operates in three segments: Housewares/Small Appliance, Defense and Absorbent Products.
Housewares/Small Appliance Segment
The Housewares/Small Appliance segment designs, markets and distributes housewares and small electrical appliances, including pressure cookers and canners, kitchen electrics, and comfort appliances. Housewares and electrical appliances sold by the Company include pressure cookers and canners; the Presto Control Master heat control single thermostatic control line of skillets in various sizes, griddles, woks and multi-purpose cookers; deep fryers of various sizes; waffle makers; pizza ovens; slicer/shredders; electric heaters; corn poppers (hot air, oil and microwave); dehydrators; rice cookers; microwave bacon cookers; coffeemakers and coffeemaker accessories; electric tea kettles; electric knife sharpeners; a line of kitchen gadgets, and timers. Pressure cookers and canners are available in various sizes and are fabricated of aluminum and, in the case of cookers, of stainless steel, as well. Its products are sold primarily in the United States and Canada directly to retailers and also through independent distributors. The Company primarily warehouses and distributes its products from distribution centers located in Canton and Jackson, Mississippi.
The Company's Defense segment is engaged in the manufacturing of approximately 40 millimeters (mm) ammunition, and precision mechanical and electro-mechanical products for the United States Department of Defense (DOD) and DOD prime contractors, through its subsidiary, AMTEC Corporation (AMTEC). AMTEC's manufacturing facility is focused on producing market ordnance products, which include training ammunition, fuses, firing devices and initiators. Spectra Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of AMTEC, is engaged in the manufacture and delivery of munitions and ordnance-related products for the DOD and DOD prime contractors.
Amron, a division of AMTEC, manufactures cartridge cases used in medium caliber ammunition (approximately 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm) primarily for the DOD and DOD prime contractors, which includes the 40 mm systems program. AMTEC Less Lethal Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of AMTEC Corporation, manufacturers lethal ammunition. The subsidiary's products include smoke and tear gas grenades, specialty impact munitions, diversionary devices and stun munitions, support accessories, such as launchers and gas masks, as well as training for the use of its products. Tech Ord, a division of AMTEC, holds the assets of Chemring Energetic Devices, Inc.'s business located in Clear Lake, South Dakota and all of the real property owned by Technical Ordnance Realty, LLC. Approximately 88,000 square foot Clear Lake facility is a manufacturer of detonators, booster pellets, release cartridges, lead azide, and other military energetic devices and materials.
Absorbent Products Segment
The Company's Absorbent Products segment manufactures and sells private label and branded adult incontinence products. The segment is operated by the Company's subsidiary, Presto Absorbent Products, Inc., which manufactures private label diapers. Through NCN Hygienic Products, Inc., the Company's subsidiary, it manufactures adult incontinence products and puppy pads. Its products are produced under the PRESTO label. The segment's products are sold to distributors and other absorbent product manufacturers.
