O2Micro International Limited, incorporated on March 29, 1997, designs, develops and markets integrated circuits for power management and security applications, as well as systems security solutions. The Company focuses its product design efforts on integrated circuits for consumer electronics, computer, industrial and communications products, including liquid crustal display (LCD) computer monitors, LCD televisions, notebook computers, Internet security devices, global positioning system (GPS), mobile phones and portable digital versatile disc (DVD) players. Its integrated circuit products manage and provide power for LCD lighting, provide connections between notebook computers and external plug-in cards provide Internet security, control and monitor battery charging and discharging, direct current (DC)/direct current (DC) conversion, and provide select and switch functionality between power sources.
The Company’s integrated circuit (IC) products use analog, digital or mixed-signal designs that combine analog and digital circuits on a single chip, reducing the number of components needed and allowing its customers to reduce the size, weight, power requirements or cost of their products. It offers a range of application specific standard products, as well as customized products. It sells its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), original design manufacturing (ODMs) and module makers. Its ICs have been incorporated into products sold by Acer, Apple Computer, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, LG Electronics, NEC, Samsung Electronics, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba. The Company sells its products through its direct sales force, independent sales representatives and distributors in China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. The Company also has design centers in many of its markets to provide design and engineering support to its customers.
The Company markets power management and cardbus controller components and system security for the Consumer, Computer, Industrial and Communications markets. Its power management and cardbus controller products include ICs to provide power for LCD and light emitting diode (LED) lighting, control and monitor battery charging and discharging, DC/DC conversion, provide connections between notebook computers and external plug-in cards, and provide select and switch functionality between power sources. Its system security solutions include virtual private networks (VPNs) and firewalls, which provide security functions for communications between computer systems and networks, including the transmission of data across the Internet. Its system security products are designed to provide high-speed and security protection.
The Company sells its products into four end-markets: consumer electronics market, computer market, industrial market and communications market. Consumer electronics market includes desktop monitors, LCD televisions, digital cameras, and camcorders and portable media players. Computer market includes notebook computers, desktop computers and servers. Industrial market includes industrial tools, automobile GPS systems and other automobile systems. Communications market includes portable GPS systems, mobile phone handsets, data communications security and networking systems, and Internet and Internet-related systems.
The Company competes with Intersil Corporation, Linear Technology Corporation, Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., Microsemi Corporation, Monolithic Power Systems, Inc., Ricoh Company, Ltd., Rohm Co., Ltd, Texas Instruments Incorporated, Toshiba and Fujitsu.
