Roadrunner Transportation Systems, Inc. (RRTS), incorporated on February 22, 2005, is an asset-light transportation and logistics service provider. The Company offers a suite of global supply chain solutions, including truckload logistics (TL), customized and expedited less-than-truckload (LTL), intermodal solutions (transporting a shipment by over one mode, primarily through rail and truck), freight consolidation, inventory management, expedited services, air freight, international freight forwarding, customs brokerage and transportation management solutions. The Company operates through three segments: Truckload Logistics, Less-than-Truckload and Global Solutions. The Company utilizes a third-party network of transportation providers, consisting of independent contractors (ICs) and purchased power providers, to serve a diverse customer base. It primarily focuses on small to mid-size shippers.
The Company's truckload logistics segment arranges the pickup, delivery, freight consolidation and inventory management of truckload, intermodal and ground and air expedited freight through its network of over 48 TL service centers, approximately four freight consolidation and inventory management centers, over 23 company dispatch offices, and over 100 independent brokerage agents located throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The Company offers temperature-controlled, dry van, intermodal drayage and flatbed services, and specializes in the transport of automotive parts, refrigerated foods, poultry and beverages. Its on-demand ground and air expedited services feature bid technology supported by its fleets of ground and air assets. It also provides a range of TL transportation solutions for dry goods ranging from paper products to steel, as well as flatbed service for industrial load requirements.
The Company's less-than-truckload segment involves the pickup, consolidation, linehaul, deconsolidation and delivery of LTL shipments throughout the United States and into Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Canada. With a network of approximately 47 LTL service centers and over 180 third-party delivery agents, it employs a point-to-point LTL model. It provides LTL service originating from points within approximately 150 miles of its service centers to destinations throughout the United States and into Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Within the United States, it offers national, long-haul service (1,000 miles or greater), inter-regional service (between 500 and 1,000 miles), and regional service (500 miles or less). It offers services to various industries, including retail, industrial, paper goods, manufacturing, food and beverage, healthcare, chemicals, computer hardware and general commodities.
The Company's Global Solutions segment offers a one-stop domestic and international transportation and logistics solution, including access to various modes of transportation within its broad network. Its Global Solutions offerings include pricing; contract management; transportation mode and carrier selection; freight tracking; freight bill payment and audit; cost reporting and analysis, and dispatch. Its Global Solutions business also includes domestic and international air and ocean transportation services, and customs brokerage. Within its Global Solutions business, the Company operates from approximately eight service centers and over 10 dispatch offices throughout the United States.
