A. Schulman, Inc. (A. Schulman), incorporated on August 20, 1969, is a supplier of plastic compounds, resins and services. The Company's customers span a range of markets, such as packaging, mobility, building and construction, electronics and electrical, agriculture, personal care and hygiene, sports and leisure, custom services and others. The Company’s operating segments include Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the Americas, and Asia Pacific (APAC). A. Schulman operates primarily in four lines of business: masterbatch, engineered plastics, specialty powders and distribution services. Effective September 1, 2012, the masterbatch product family was split into two separate product families: Custom Performance Colors and Masterbatch Solutions. On January 31, 2012, the Company acquired Elian SAS (Elian). On September 4, 2012, the Company acquired ECM Plastics, Inc. In September 2013, A. Schulman, Inc purchased the Perrite Group. Effective September 3, 2013, A Schulman Inc acquired Vita Thermoplastic Compounds Ltd. In December 2013, A. Schulman Inc acquired Network Polymers, Inc.
The Masterbatch product portfolio includes Polybatch, which is an additive compounds for film and molding; Polyblak, which includes carbon black color concentrates; Polywhite, which includes white color concentrates; Polypet, which includes additive compounds for polyester resins; Polypearl, which includes additive compounds for special pearl effects; Polystat, which includes antistatic concentrates; Papermatch, which includes masterbatch for the production of synthetic paper; Polycolor, which includes custom color concentrates for film and molding, and Polyfresh, which includes absorptive concentrate to reduce odors. The Company’s offering of colorant solutions includes a range of colors, such as metallics, pearlescent (shimmer), thermochromic (heat sensitive), photochromic (light sensitive), fluorescent, phosphorescent (glow-in-the-dark) and interference (color shift) technologies. The Company also provides solutions for agriculture films, offering additives that provide ultra violet control, barrier, and anti-fog solutions among others.
The Company is a supplier of engineered plastics. The Company’s engineered plastics products comprise 100% of material used by its customers in their end products. A. Schulman offers multi-component blends that include polyolefins, nylons, polyesters, elastomers, ionomers, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and customized cross-linked resins. The engineered plastics product portfolio includes Invision, which includes thermoplastic elastomers and vulcanizates; Schulamid, which includes filled and unfilled nylon compounds; Schuladur, which includes filled and unfilled PBT compounds; Schulablend M/MK, which includes nylon/ABS alloys; Formion, which includes formulated Ionomer compounds; Clarix, which includes thermoplastic ionomer resins; Polyflam, which includes flame-retardant thermoplastic compounds and concentrates; Polyfort, which includes polypropylene, polyethylene, EVA compounds; Polytrope, which includes thermoplastic olefins; Polyvin, which includes flexible thermoplastic PVC compounds; Schulform, which includes filled and unfilled acetal compounds; Polyman, which includes ABS compounds and alloys, and Agrisplas, which includes renewable natural fiber-filled thermoplastics.
Specialty powders products for the rotational molding market include compounded resin powders for rotationally-molded products, such as gas and storage tanks, kayaks, playground slides, and other large applications. The specialty powders product family includes a range of product portfolio of base resins, custom colors, and cross-linked polyethylene formulations, including Icorene, which includes compound powders offered in custom colors and specialty effects; Polyaxis, which includes compounds developed specifically for the rotational molding process; Schulink, which includes cross-linkable resin used in rotational molding, and Superlinear, which includes material offers impact, stiffness and high heat-distortion temperatures.
The Company’s distribution services offerings include polymers for all processing types, including injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming and film and sheet extruding. As a distributor, the Company works with polymer producers to assist in servicing a market segment that is either not easily accessible to these producers, or does not fit into these producers' core customer segment or supply chain.
