SM Energy Company, incorporated on January 23, 1915, is an independent energy company. The Company is engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and production of crude oil and condensate, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs) in onshore North America. The Company operates in the exploration and production segment of the oil and gas industry within the United States. The Company's operations are concentrated in onshore operating areas in the United States: South Texas & Gulf Coast Region, Rocky Mountain Region and Permian Region. The Company has working interests in approximately 1,460 gross (approximately 870 net) productive oil wells and approximately 1,770 gross (approximately 650 net) productive gas wells.
South Texas & Gulf Coast Region
The Company's operations in its South Texas & Gulf Coast Region are managed from its office in Houston, Texas. Within this region, the Company has both operated and non-operated Eagle Ford shale programs on approximately 200,000 net acres. Its operated program accounts for approximately 80% of its total Eagle Ford acreage and production. The Company's acreage position covers a portion of the western Eagle Ford shale play, including acreage in the oil/condensate, NGL-rich gas, and dry gas windows of the play. The Company has approximately 80 gross and net wells that had been drilled but not completed in its operated Eagle Ford shale program.
Rocky Mountain Region
The Company's operations in its Rocky Mountain Region are managed from its office in Billings, Montana. It has approximately 162,000 net acres being developed in the Bakken and Three Forks formations. The Company focuses on testing completion optimizations and down-spacing in Divide County, North Dakota. In the Powder River Basin, the Company has approximately 204,000 net acres, a portion of which are prospective for the Frontier and Shannon intervals. It has approximately 50 gross (approximately 40 net) drilled but not completed wells in its operated Bakken/Three Forks program.
The Company's operations in its Permian Region are managed from its office in Midland, Texas. Its Permian region covers western Texas and southeastern New Mexico. The Company has approximately 23,000 net acres in its Permian Region, a portion of which is held by production.
