Santos Limited, incorporated on March 18, 1954, is a natural gas company. The Company is engaged in the exploration, development, production and sales of natural gas both onshore and offshore. The Company produces liquid petroleum gas (LPG), ethane, methane, Coal seam gas (CSG), Liquefied natural gas (LNG), shale gas, condensate and oil. The Company's segments comprise its five key assets/operating areas: Cooper Basin; Gladstone LNG (GLNG); Papua New Guinea (PNG); Northern Australia, and Western Australia (WA) gas. The Company operates in Australia and Asia. Its Other Assets include Indonesia, Vietnam, East Coast Australia Gas, Western Australia oil, Victoria and onshore Northern Territory.
The Cooper Basin produces natural gas, gas liquids and crude oil. Gas is sold primarily for the production of liquefied natural gas, and to industry and domestic retailers, while gas liquids and crude oil are sold in the domestic and export markets. GLNG produces LNG for export to global markets from the LNG plant at Gladstone. It is located in the western Bowen Basin, onshore eastern Queensland. The gas from GLNG is also sold into domestic markets. It includes the development of CSG resources in the Bowen and Surat Basins in south-east Queensland, construction of a 420-kilometer underground gas transmission pipeline to Gladstone, and two LNG trains with a combined nameplate capacity of approximately eight metric tons per annum (mtpa) on Curtis Island.
The Company's business in Papua New Guinea is centered on the PNG LNG Project. PNG LNG produces LNG for export to global markets, as well as gas and gas liquids. Santos has interests in several discoveries across the PNG Fold Belt, Gulf of Papua and PNG Forelands, such as PPL-402, which contains the Muruk discovery; PRL-38, which is located offshore in the Gulf of Papua and contains the Pandora A and B gas fields, PRL-9, which contains the Barikewa gas discovery.
In Northern Australia, Santos has interest in the Bayu-Undan/Darwin LNG Project (DLNG), which produces LNG and gas liquids for export to global markets. It has discovered resource position across Northern Australia, across the Browse and Bonaparte Basins, in close proximity to DLNG and other LNG projects under construction in the region. The Company's discoveries in the region include Bayu Undan, Barossa Caldita, Petrel-Tern and Frigate, and Crown and Lasseter. Bayu Undan is a gas supply source to DLNG.
The Company is a producer of domestic natural gas in Western Australia. The Company has operations in the Carnarvon Basin, which underpins the Western Australia domestic gas business. The Varanus Island and Devil Creek domestic gas infrastructure are supplied by John Brookes, Spar, Halyard and Reindeer. The Company has interests in various resource bases, such as Zola-Bianchi, Maitland-Davis and Spartan.
