SunCoke Energy, Inc. (SunCoke), incorporated on December 8, 2010, is an independent producer of coke, a principal raw material in the blast furnace steelmaking process. The Company has cokemaking operations in United States, Brazil and India. The Company’s owns and operates coal mining operations in Virginia and West Virginia. As of December 31, 2013, the coal mining operations have more than 110 million tons of proven and probable reserves. The Company operates in four segments. Domestic Coke, which consists of its cokemaking facilities in the United States; Brazil Coke, which consists of its operations in Vitoria, Brazil, where it operates a cokemaking facility for a Brazilian subsidiary of ArcelorMittal; India Coke, which consists of cokemaking joint venture in Odisha, India; Coal Logistics, which consists of coal handling and blending services.
The Company has designed, developed and built, and owned and operated five cokemaking facilities in the United States. Domestic Coke consists of Jewell, Indiana Harbor, Haverhill, Granite City and Middletown cokemaking and heat recovery operations located in Vansant, Virginia, East Chicago, Indiana, Franklin Furnace, Ohio, Granite City, Illinois, and Middletown, Ohio, respectively. The capacity of the five United States cokemaking facilities is approximately 4.2 million tons of coke per year.
The Company has one cokemaking facility in Brazil under licensing and operating agreements on behalf of its customer. The cokemaking facility that the Company operates in Brazil has capacity of approximately 1.7 million tons of coke per year.
SunCoke has a joint venture interest in the operations of one cokemaking facility in India. The cokemaking facility in India has an annual capacity of 440,000 tons of coke.
Coal Logistics consists of the Company’s coal handling and blending services in East Chicago, Indiana; Ceredo, West Virginia; Belle, West Virginia; and Catlettsburg, Kentucky. It has a collective capacity to blend and transload more than 30 million tons of coal annually.
