SunCoke Energy, Inc., incorporated on December 8, 2010, is an independent producer of coke in the Americas. The Company's segments include Domestic Coke, Brazil Coke, Coal Logistics, and Corporate and Other. The Company designs, develops, builds, owns and operates five cokemaking facilities in the United States with collective nameplate capacity to produce approximately 4.2 million tons of coke per year, as of December 31, 2016.
The Domestic Coke segment consists of its Jewell Coke Company, L.P. (Jewell), Indiana Harbor Coke Company (Indiana Harbor), Haverhill Coke Company LLC (Haverhill), Gateway Energy and Coke Company, LLC (Granite City) and Middletown Coke Company, LLC (Middletown) cokemaking and heat recovery operations located in Vansant, Virginia; East Chicago, Indiana; Franklin Furnace, Ohio; Granite City, Illinois, and Middletown, Ohio. The Brazil Coke segment consists of its operations in Vitoria, Brazil, where the Company operate a cokemaking facility, ArcelorMittal Brasil S.A. (ArcelorMittal Brazil). The Coal Logistics segment consists of its Convent Marine Terminal (CMT), Kanawha River Terminals, LLC (KRT), SunCoke Lake Terminal, LLC (Lake Terminal) and Dismal River Terminal, LLC (DRT) coal handling and/or mixing service operations in Convent, Louisiana; Ceredo and Belle, West Virginia; East Chicago, Indiana, and Vansant, Virginia. Lake Terminal and DRT are located adjacent to its Indiana Harbor and Jewell cokemaking facilities. The Company also provides the services at its Coal Logistics terminals to steel, coke (including some of its domestic cokemaking facilities), electric utility and coal mining customers.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a real property, covering approximately 66 acres in Vansant (Buchanan County), Virginia, and additionally covering approximately 1,675 acres in Buchanan County, Virginia and McDowell County, West Virginia, including the offices, warehouse and support buildings for its Jewell coal and coke affiliates, as well as other property holdings and unoccupied land. As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a real property, covering approximately 400 acres in Franklin Furnace (Scioto County), Ohio.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a real property, covering approximately 41 acres in Granite City (Madison County), Illinois, adjacent to the United States Steel Granite City Works facility. As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a real property, covering approximately 250 acres in Middletown (Butler County), Ohio near AK Steel's Middletown Works facility. As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a real property, covering approximately 180 acres in Ceredo (Wayne County), West Virginia. As of December 31, 2016, the Company owned a real property, covering approximately 174 acres in Convent (St. James Parish), Louisiana.
As of December 31, 2016, the Company leased a real property, covering approximately 88 acres of land located in East Chicago (Lake County), Indiana. As of December 31, 2016, the Company leased a real property, covering approximately 22 acres of land located in Buchanan County, Virginia. As of December 31, 2016, the Company leased a real property, covering approximately 25 acres in Belle (Kanawha County), West Virginia. As of December 31, 2016, the Company also leased small parcels of land, mineral rights and coal mining rights for approximately 35,000 acres of land in Buchanan and Russell Counties, Virginia.
