Profile: Syntroleum Corp (SYNM.OQ)
9 Dec 2013
Syntroleum Corporation (Syntroleum), along with its subsidiaries, is engaged in the commercialization of technologies to produce synthetic liquid hydrocarbons. The Syntroleum Technologies consist of air based syngas generation from natural gas, Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology to convert syngas to FT wax, and hydroprocessing technology. The Company's hydro-processing technology is utilized either for conversion of FT wax (Synfining) or fats oils and greases (Bio-Synfining) into naphtha, diesel and liquefied petroleum gases (LPG). The Company also produces ASTM D7566, commercial jet fuel, as well as HRJ-5, military jet fuel.
The Syntroleum Process produces synthetic liquid hydrocarbons that are substantially free of contaminants normally found in refined products made from crude oil. These synthetic liquid hydrocarbons can be further processed into fungible products through the Company's Synfining Process. These products include ultra-clean liquid fuels, for use in reciprocating and jet/turbine engines, and specialty products, such as synthetic lubricants, process oils, high melting point waxes, liquid normal paraffins and chemical feedstocks. The Syntroleum Process involves two catalytic reactions: conversion of carbon containing material into synthesis gas and conversion of the synthesis gas or syngas into hydrocarbons over the Company's Fischer-Tropsch catalyst.
The Company has also developed hydroprocessing technology, the Synfining Process, for conversion of the Fischer-Tropsch wax into a variety of products, including diesels fuels, jet fuels, lubricants, naphtha and other materials. The Company has also adapted its Synfining Process to accommodate fats, oils, greases, fatty acids and similar feedstocks in the production of renewable fuels. These feedstocks are similar in chemical structure to the products produced from the Fischer-Tropsch process.
