Integrys Energy Group, Inc., incorporated on December 3, 1993, is a diversified energy holding company. The Company’s wholly owned subsidiaries provide products and services in both the regulated and nonregulated energy markets. In addition, it has a 34% equity interest in ATC (an electric transmission company operating in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois). During the year ended December 31, 2012, the Company operates in five segments: natural gas utility segment, electric utility segment, electric transmission investment segment, Integrys Energy Services and the holding company and other segment. Its regulated natural gas utilities provide service to approximately 1,690,000 residential, commercial and industrial, transportation, and other customers. On April 3, 2013, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a unit of the Company, acquired Fox Energy Co LLC, from General Electric Co and Tyr Energy Inc.
Natural Gas Utility Segment
The natural gas utility segment includes the regulated natural gas utility operations of Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS), Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation (MGU), Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation (MERC), The Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company (PGL), and North Shore Gas Company (NSG). The Company’s regulated natural gas utilities manage portfolios of natural gas supply contracts, storage services, and pipeline transportation services designed to meet range of customer use patterns. Its regulated natural gas subsidiaries contract for fixed-term firm natural gas supply each year (in the United States and Canada) to meet the demand of firm system sales customers. Its regulated natural gas utilities own two storage fields and contract with various other underground storage service providers for additional storage services.
Electric Utility Segment
The electric utility segment includes the regulated electric utility operations of Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) and WPS. The regulated electric utility operations of UPPCO and WPS provide service to approximately 495,000 residential, commercial and industrial, wholesale, and other customers. WPS's customers are located in northeastern Wisconsin and an adjacent portion of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. UPPCO's customers are located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Wholesale electric service is provided to range of customers, including municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, energy marketers, other investor-owned utilities, and municipal joint action agencies.
Integrys Energy Services
Integrys Energy Services is a diversified non-regulated retail energy supply and services company that primarily sells electricity and natural gas in deregulated markets. In addition, Integrys Energy Services invests in energy assets with renewable attributes. Integrys Energy Services and its subsidiaries market electricity and natural gas in various retail markets, serving commercial and industrial customers, as well as direct and small commercial and residential customers. Natural gas is sourced at the customer demand regions, or from the supply region and transported to the customer demand regions under natural gas transportation contracts.
Electric Transmission Investment and Holding Company and Other Segment
The electric transmission investment segment consists of our approximate 34% ownership interest in ATC. The holding company and other segment include the operations of the Integrys Energy Group holding company and the the Peoples Energy, LLC (PELLC) holding company, along with any nonutility activities at WPS, MGU, MERC, UPPCO, PGL, NSG, and IBS.
