The Company also operates a wholesale segment under the Free People brand. In addition to its retail stores, it offers its products and markets its brands directly to the consumer through its e-commerce Websites, www.urbanoutfitters.com, www.anthropologie.com,www.freepeople.com, www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk,www.urbanoutfitters.de, www.urbanoutfitters.fr, www.anthropologie.eu, www.shopterrain.com and www.bhldn.com and also through its Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People catalogs. Its Urban Outfitters stores, Websites and catalogs offer a range of eclectic merchandise, including women’s and men’s fashion apparel, footwear and accessories and an eclectic mix of apartment wares and gifts. Product offerings in its Anthropologie stores, Websites and catalogs include women’s casual apparel and accessories, shoes, as well as home furnishings and an eclectic range of gifts and decorative accessories for the home, garden, bed and bath. Its Free People retail stores, Website and catalog offer a showcase for casual women’s apparel, intimates, shoes, accessories and gifts, developed and designed by its Free People wholesale division. Its Terrain garden center and Website offers lifestyle home and garden products combined with antiques, live plants, flowers, wellness products and accessories. Its BHLDN retail store and Website offers a curated collection of heirloom quality wedding gowns, bridesmaid frocks, party dresses, assorted jewelry, headpieces, footwear, lingerie and decorations.

Retail Stores

The Company’s product offering includes women’s and men’s fashion apparel, footwear and accessories, as well as an eclectic mix of apartment wares and gifts. Apartment wares range from rugs, pillows and shower curtains to books, candles and novelties. Stores average approximately 9,000 square feet of selling space, and carry an estimated 55,000 to 60,000 stock keeping units (SKUs). Its stores are located in metropolitan areas, select university communities, specialty centers and enclosed malls. As of January 31, 2012, it operated 197 Urban Outfitters stores in North America and Europe, as well as four Websites and the Urban Outfitters catalog.

Anthropologie’s product assortment includes women’s casual apparel and accessories, shoes, home furnishings and a range of gifts and decorative items. The home furnishings range from furniture, rugs, lighting and antiques to table top items, bedding and gifts. Stores average approximately 7,200 square feet of selling space, typically carry an estimated 45,000 to 50,000 SKUs and are located in specialty retail centers, upscale street locations and enclosed malls. As of January 31, 2012, it operated 168 Anthropologie stores in North America and Europe, as well as two Websites and the Anthropologie catalog. Its Free People offers a merchandise mix of casual women’s apparel, intimates, shoes, accessories and gifts. Free People retail stores average approximately 1,400 square feet of selling space, carry up to 7,000 SKUs and are located in enclosed malls, upscale street locations and specialty retail centers. The retail channels of Free People expose both its wholesale accounts and retail customers to the full Free People product assortment. As of January 31, 2012, it operated 62 Free People stores in the United States, as well as a Website and the Free People catalog. Its Terrain garden center operates approximately 20,000 square feet of enclosed selling space, as well as approximately two acres of outdoor seasonal selling space used for its offering of lifestyle home and garden products, antiques, live plants, flowers, wellness products and accessories. Terrain also offers a range of landscape and design service solutions in addition to operating a Website. As of January 31, 2012, it operated one Terrain garden center. In August 2011, it opened its first BHLDN store in Houston, Texas. BHLDN offers a curated collection of heirloom quality wedding gowns, bridesmaid frocks, party dresses, assorted jewelry, headpieces, footwear, lingerie and decorations. The store has approximately 3,400 square feet of selling space and is located in a specialty retail center. As of January 31, 2012, it operated one BHLDN store, as well as a Website.

Direct-to-Consumer

The Company operates a Direct-to-Consumer channel, which generates sales directly through its Websites and catalogs. During the fiscal year ended January 31, 2012 (fiscal 2012), it circulated approximately 47.9 million catalogs across all brands. In addition, it evaluates the buying pattern of its Direct-to-Consumer customers. Anthropologie operates a Website, which accepts orders directly from customers. Anthropologie also offers a direct-to-consumer catalog, which markets select merchandise, which is also available in its Anthropologie stores. Anthropologie operates a Website targeting its European customers. Its Anthropologie European customers are also offered a direct-to-consumer catalog, which markets selected merchandise, which is also offered at its Anthropologie stores located in Europe.

Urban Outfitters operates a Website, which accepts orders directly from customers. Urban Outfitters offers a direct-to-consumer catalog offering select merchandise, which is also available in its Urban Outfitters stores. Urban Outfitters operates three Websites for its European customers. Its Urban Outfitters European customers are offered a direct-to-consumer catalog, which markets selected merchandise, which is also offered at its Urban Outfitters stores located in Europe. Free People operates a Website, which accepts orders directly from customers. Free People also offers a direct-to-consumer catalog offering select merchandise, which is also available in its Free People stores. Terrain operates a Website, which accepts orders directly from customers. BHLDN launched its Website on February 14, 2011. The Website accepts orders directly from customers and exposes consumers to all product offerings of the BHLDN brand.

Wholesale Operations

The Free People wholesale develops, in conjunction with Urban Outfitters, private label apparel lines of young women’s casual wear. During fiscal 2012, Free People’s range of tops, bottoms, sweaters and dresses were sold globally through approximately 1,400 better department and specialty stores, including Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Belk and its own Free People stores. Free People sells its merchandise under its Free People and other labels. It also distributes its Free People products in certain department stores using a shop-within-shop sales model. Free People maintains wholesale sales and showroom facilities in New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. During fiscal 2012, Free People wholesale sales accounted for approximately 5.1% of consolidated net sales. In addition to selling its merchandise to specialty retailers, Free People wholesale also shares production sourcing with its retail segment.
