AB Volvo is a Sweden-based manufacturer of trucks, buses, construction equipment, and marine and industrial engines. The Company also provides financing and service. It is the parent company of the Volvo Group, whose business activities are organized into six business areas: Group Trucks, Construction Equipment, Buses, Volvo Penta, Governmental Sales and Volvo Financial Services.

The Volvo Group includes Volvo IT, Volvo Group Venture Capital, Volvo Group Real Estate, Volvo Group Treasury, Volvo Event Management, Alviva, WirelessCar and Volvo Merchandise Corporation. Volvo IT supplies IT solutions, telematics services and consultancy services. Volvo Group Venture Capital is an investment company. Volvo Group Real Estate is the property management unit that focuses on optimizing the value of the Volvo Group's real estate. Volvo Group Treasury is the Volvo Group's internal bank and it coordinates the Company's financial strategy and its economic infrastructure. Volvo Event Management focuses on sponsorship of sports. Alviva is involved in providing services within the field of occupational health care. WirelessCar provides manufacturers of cars and commercial vehicles with telematics offers and is part of Volvo Information Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary of AB Volvo. Volvo Merchandise Corporation is the partner for official Volvo Merchandise. Volvo Merchandise is a wholly owned company within the Volvo Group that designs, sources and distributes merchandise to all the Company's different regions.

Group Trucks

The Company's Trucks operations involve Group Trucks Sales (GTS), Group Trucks Operations (GTO) and Group Trucks Technology (GTT). GTS is responsible for all sales and marketing activities for all truck brands in the Volvo Group. The division is also responsible for the Company's joint venture Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles. GTT is responsible for product development of engines, transmissions and trucks. GTO is responsible for the production of Volvo, Renault, Mack and UD trucks and the Company's engines and transmissions. GTO is also responsible for the Company's spare parts supply and logistics operations.

Construction Equipment

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) provides machines, attachments and services for the construction, extraction, waste processing and materials handling industries. Distributing its products via a global network of dealers, it offers excavators, articulated haulers, wheel loaders and a range of smaller equipment, such as compact excavators and skid steer loaders. Its road machinery range includes compactors and pavers. Its Chinese-built range of SDLG-branded products includes excavators, wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, compactors and motor graders, while its Terex Trucks has a field population of rigid and articulated haulers. The company's offerings also include customer support agreements, attachments, financing, leasing and used equipment sales.


Volvo Buses manufactures buses. The product range includes complete transport systems, city buses, intercity buses and coaches, as well as services in financing, vehicle, fleet and traffic management. The product range includes complete buses and bus chassis for city, intercity and coach traffic. The company has an offering that, in addition to buses, includes a global service network, spare parts handling, service and repair contracts, financial services and traffic information systems. The offer also consists of complete transport systems for electro-mobility, including charging infrastructure.

Volvo Penta

The Volvo Group's manufactures diesel engines for its trucks, construction equipment and buses. Volvo Penta is in charge of sales of the Company's engines to external customers, including boat builders and manufacturers of industrial products, such as container handling and mining equipment. Volvo Penta provides engines and power systems for leisure and commercial boats, as well as for industrial applications, such as power generation and container trucks.

The Industrial business segment, part of Volvo Penta's operation, manufactures engines for the Volvo Group. Volvo Penta offers marine drive systems for both leisure and commercial boats. In the Marine Commercial segment, Volvo Penta supplies engines and drive systems to be used under the harshest of conditions.

Governmental Sales

Volvo Group Governmental Sales is responsible for the Company's sales to government authorities and organizations. Governmental Sales is part of the Corporate and Group functions, which includes business support functions.

Volvo Financial Services

Volvo Financial Services (VFS) offers financial solutions for the Volvo Group product sales. VFS operates exclusively to support the sales of vehicles and equipment, which are produced by the Volvo Group.

The Company competes with Daimler, Iveco, MAN, Navistar, Paccar, Scania, Sinotruk, Brunswick, Caterpillar, CNH, Cummins, Deere, Hitachi, Komatsu and Terex.
