The Company manufactures two main grades of paper: coated groundwood paper and coated freesheet paper. It also produces and sells Northern Bleached Hardwood Kraft (NBHK) pulp. The Company's Coated groundwood paper includes a fiber component produced through a mechanical pulping process. In addition to mechanical pulp, coated groundwood paper includes a kraft pulp component. Its Coated freesheet paper is made from bleached kraft pulp, which is produced using a chemical process to break apart wood fibers and dissolve impurities, such as lignin. Coated freesheet contains kraft pulp, with approximately 10% mechanical pulp in its composition. NBHK pulp is produced through the chemical kraft process using hardwoods. Kraft describes pulp produced using a chemical process, whereby wood chips are combined with chemicals and steam to separate the wood fibers. The fibers are then washed and pressure screened to remove the chemicals and lignin, and finally, the pulp is bleached. It also offers recycled paper. Additionally, it offers customized product solutions by producing paper grades with customer-specified weight, brightness and pulp mix characteristics. Its product offerings also include uncoated printing papers, and coated and uncoated packaging papers.
The Company owns approximately 10 paper machines at over eight mills located in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
