Its products and services are aimed at freight rail and passenger transit vehicles. As of September 30, 2014, the Company operates in 19 countries. Wabtec has two segments: the Freight Segment and the Transit Segment. The Freight Segment manufactures, builds, rebuilds, and supplies products and services for the freight cars and locomotives sectors. The Transit Segment manufactures, builds, rebuilds, and supplies products and services for the passenger transit sector. The Company offers remanufacturing, overhaul and build services; specialty products and electronics; brake products, and transit products.
The Company offers specialty products and electronics, such as positive train control equipment and electronically controlled pneumatic braking products; railway electronics, including event recorders, monitoring equipment and end of train devices; signal design and engineering services; freight car truck components; draft gears, couplers and slack adjusters; air compressors and dryers; heat exchangers and cooling products for locomotives and power generation equipment, and track and switch products. The company’s brake products include railway braking equipment and related components for freight and transit applications, and friction products, including brake shoes and pads. Wabtec also provides remanufacturing, overhaul and build services, including new commuter and switcher locomotives, and transit car and locomotive overhaul and refurbishment. It also offers a range of transit products, including door and window assemblies for buses and subway cars, accessibility lifts and ramps for buses and subway cars, and traction motors.
The Company’s Freight Segment manufactures and services components for new and existing freight cars and locomotives; builds new switcher locomotives; rebuilds freight locomotives; supplies railway electronics, positive train control equipment, signal design and engineering services, friction products, and provides related heat exchange and cooling systems. The segment’s targets its products and services at large, publicly traded railroads, leasing companies, manufacturers of original equipment such as locomotives and freight cars, and utilities.
The Company’s Transit Segment manufactures and services components for new and existing passenger transit vehicles, typically subway cars and buses; builds new commuter locomotives and friction products, and refurbishes subway cars. The Company’s customers include public transit authorities and municipalities, leasing companies and manufacturers of subway cars and buses around the world.
The Company competes with New York Air Brake Company, a subsidiary of the German air brake producer Knorr-Bremse AG; Amsted Rail Company, Inc., a subsidiary of Amsted Industries Corporation; Electro-Motive Diesel, a division of Caterpillar; GE Transportation Systems, and Faiveley Transport.
