ZAP, incorporated on September 23, 1994, designs, develops, manufactures and sells electric vehicles. The Company operates through three segments: Jonway Auto, ZAP (Consumer Product) and ZAP Hong Kong. The Jonway Auto segment includes sales of the gas fueled Jonway A380 three and five-door sports utility vehicles, EV minivan and EV sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and spare parts principally through distributors in China. The ZAP Consumer Product segment includes rechargeable portable energy products, its Zapino scooter and ZAPPY3 personal transporters. The Company, through an interest in Zhejiang Jonway Automobile Co. Ltd. (Jonway), has an automobile production manufacturing facility to produce electric vehicle products. Jonway offers a small lower speed vehicle (LSV) under the name Urbee, and also provides electric vehicle (EV) SUV and EV minivan.
The Company also has interests in ZAP Hangzhou, Shanghai Zapple Electric Vehicle Technologies Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Zapple) and Better World International Limited (Better World). It has sales and distribution rights on Better World's Z-Charger stations. It offers a limited one-year warranty on its fleet and utility vehicles and six- and three-month warranties on its consumer electric scooters and bicycles, respectively. ZAP Jonway manufactures the A380 electric SUV and the minivan at Jonway's manufacturing facility in Sanmen, Zhejiang China. Jonway's manufacturing operations include pressing, welding, painting and assembling lines.
Jonway Automotive Products: Gasoline Model
Jonway's automotive product line includes the gas fueled A380 Five-Door SUV, the A380 Three-Door SUV and the Jonway Van. The A380 Three-Door SUV is offered in limited quantities. The Jonway A380 Five-Door is a gasoline powered four-speed sport utility vehicle available in over 1.5-liter engines and with automatic or manual transmission. The Jonway Van is a conventional fuel small van.
ZAP Automotive Products: Electric Vehicles
ZAP's automotive product line includes the all-electric E-380 SUV, which has a range of over 150 kilometers and speed of approximately 130 kilometers per hour. E-380 SUV has a 25-kilowatt engine with peak performance of over 60kwatt and is available for international markets. ZAP Jonway Minivan is offered in the traditional gasoline model with over 1.1 liter engine, and is offered as EV with over two options: one with lead acid for the low end market where range is limited to over 80 kilometers and speed is approximately 100 kilometers per hour, and a model with lithium batteries where speed is over 130 kilometers per hour and range is approximately 200 kilometers distance.
The Urbee is a low-speed electric vehicle, with a driving range of over 150 kilometers per charge, which is suited for daily city driving with overnight recharging. The Urbee can hold over two passengers is designed for corporate and university campuses, airports, warehouses, military bases, retirement communities and golf courses. A four passenger, four-door version of Urbee is available in China. The maximum speed for the Urbee is over 60 kilometers per hour. The Urbee is type approved for Europe as L6 vehicle, and is undergoing the DOT certification process as LSV in the United States.
The Company competes with Tesla, Mitsubishi, General Motors, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Chery, Zongtai, Great Wall Auto, Daimler, Lexus, Audi, Renault, Volkswagen and Subaru.
