Reuters reported that The Walt Disney Company is in advanced talks to buy into China's in-bus digital media and advertising company. Google Inc. was among investors in the Disney-led consortium. The consortium planned to buy a stake of between 30% and 40% in Bus Online for more than $100 million via a purchase of old and new shares to be issued by the company in private placements.
Justice Department Submits Views on Amended Google Inc.'s Google Book Search Settlement
Google Inc. announced that The Department of Justice advised the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that despite the substantial progress reflected in the proposed amended settlement agreement in The Authors Guild Inc. et al. v. Google Inc., class certification, copyright and antitrust issues remain. The department also said that the United States remains committed to working with the parties on issues concerning the scope and content of the settlement.
Rightmove Seals Google Inc. Deal For Maps As It Sets Visitor Record-DJ
Dow Jones reported that U.K. property website Rightmove PLC said it had done a deal with Google Inc. whereby the U.S. firm will now supply all maps for displaying properties on Rightmove. Under this new partnership, Google Inc. will now supply all maps for displaying properties on Rightmove From Friday, Rightmove users will see properties placed on a Google Map on each property's detailed view page. The application will then be expanded over the next month so home-hunters will be able to see initial search results plotted out within their search area. Additional uses of Google Maps are also now in development.
Chinese Media Scorn U.S. Over Google Inc. Dispute-Reuters
Reuters reported that Chinese state media stepped up their war of words with the United States over internet control, with a top newspaper claiming a U.S. conspiracy and saying China can live without Google. China's Foreign Ministry, however, also signalled it did not want the dispute to boil over, saying recent stability in Sino-U.S. ties had been 'hard-won'. Two weeks ago Google Inc. threatened to shut its Chinese Google.cn portal and to pull out from China, citing problems of censorship and a sophisticated hacking attack from within the country. In the meantime, it is still filtering sensitive content. The Obama administration has backed Google's criticisms, and on Thursday U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged China to drop internet censorship and investigate the hacking, which some experts say could have been organised by Beijing. Google has said it wants talks with the Chinese government about solving its complaints.

DoCoMo To Team With Google Inc. And Microsoft Corp. For Phone Applications Bills-DJ
Dow Jones reported that NTT DoCoMo Inc. will join forces with Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. to launch a service in which smart-phone application downloads will be charged as part of calling plans, according to the Nikkei report. Google and Microsoft offer services for downloading game and other applications to smart phones that run on their operating systems. Payments are generally made with credit cards, but with DoCoMo's new service, charges will be included in cellular phone billing. DoCoMo currently sells four smart phones with Google and Microsoft operating systems. Users of these devices can subscribe to the new service, which is expected to start this year. DoCoMo will receive commissions from software vendors. By making payments easier, DoCoMo and its partners seek to challenge Apple Inc.'s online App Store for the iPhone.
