Dell Inc. Confirms Smart Phone Plans; Announces China Mobile And Claro As First Supporting Operators
Dell Inc. announced partnerships with two mobile operators and confirmed its plans to enter the smart phone business. Dell plans to distribute its new Mini 3 smart phones through China Mobile, a telecommunications company, and Claro, which serves more than 42 million people in Brazil as part of the America Movil network. The initial Mini 3 smart phones are designed around the Android platform to deliver power, flexibility and customization opportunities for both users and carriers.
Network Engines, Inc. Releases New DC-Powered Servers Based On Dell Inc.'s PowerEdge Technology
Network Engines, Inc. announced it is working with Dell to manufacture and co-market a new line of DC-powered servers based on Dell's PowerEdge R710 platform. NEI worked with Dell OEM Solutions to specify, engineer and test the new DC-powered server. The two companies will co-market the new model E-2710 to enterprise and telecom application developers and OEMs worldwide. NEI will be Dell's exclusive manufacturer of the E-2710 and the provider of support and deployment services as well as reverse logistics for this platform. Other terms and conditions of the agreement were not disclosed.
Dell Inc. Completes Tender Offer For Perot Systems Corporation; Announces New Business Unit
Dell Inc. announced the completion of its tender offer for Perot Systems Corporation, an offer which has expired. Dell has accepted the shares validly tendered and has notified Perot Systems Corporation of its exercise of its top-up option to acquire Perot Systems shares. As a result of the tenders and the top-up option exercise, Dell will own more than 90% of outstanding Perot Systems Corporation shares and expects to promptly complete the acquisition of Perot Systems Corporation, significantly expanding Dell`s portfolio of technology services and business solutions. The 108,774,629 tendered shares represent about 87.7% of outstanding Perot Systems Corporation's shares. An additional 3,961,266 shares were tendered by notice of guaranteed delivery. Dell Services, a new business unit formed by the acquisition, will develop and deliver a suite of end-to-end IT services and business solutions that reduce IT complexity and lower costs for customers. The integration of Perot Systems extends Dell Services into hosting, consulting, applications and business-process outsourcing, and expands Dell`s existing managed and modular services. The combination leverages Perot Systems` capabilities across Dell`s much larger customer base, spanning global corporations, government agencies, health and educational institutions, and small and medium enterprises.
