Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its specialty pharmaceutical business to the sigma-tau Group for $300 million plus an additional amount of up to $27 million based on success milestones. Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. will also receive royalties of 5 to 10% on incremental net sales above a 2009 baseline amount from Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc.`s four marketed specialty pharmaceutical products through 2014. Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc.'s PEGINTRON Receives Recommendation for Approval from FDA Advisory Committee for New Application in Melanoma
Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced that the FDA Oncologic Drug Advisory Committee voted in favor of recommending approval of PEGINTRON as a treatment in addition to surgery in patients with metastatic melanoma. The product is currently being marketed, manufactured and developed by Schering-Plough. PEGINTRON (Peginterferon alfa-2b) is currently indicated for treatment of chronic hepatitis C in patients 18 years of age or older with compensated liver disease and previously untreated with interferon alpha. PEGINTRON is also indicated for use in combination with REBETOL (ribavirin) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in patients three years of age and older with compensated liver disease. PEGINTRON is one of several products which utilize Enzon`s PEGylation technology, including CIMZIA, Macugen, and Pegasys.

Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Presents Clinical Data from HIF-1 Alpha Antagonist Study
Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced data from the Company`s HIF-1 alpha Phase 1 study evaluating EZN-2968 in patients with solid tumors and lymphoma. Study data demonstrated that the compound is well tolerated, and that early signs of clinical benefit, prolonged stable disease, were observed in several patients. EZN-2968, a novel HIF-1 alpha mRNA antagonist, was well tolerated in previously treated patients with advanced malignancies. No DLTs have been observed to date. PK data do not show accumulation of EZN-2968 in plasma and support weekly dosing. EZN-2968 has a two-component diffusion. Durable stable disease was observed in two patients with STS (angiosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma), in one patient with renal cancer, and in one patient with ovarian cancer. Dose escalation is ongoing.
