Klausner Tech Sues Research In Motion Limited And Motorola, Inc.-DJ
Dow Jones reported that Klausner Technologies Inc. said it is suing Research In Motion Limited and Motorola, Inc., claiming the two companies infringed on Klausner's visual voicemail patent. The suits were in response to Research In Motion Limited's release of the new 3G BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile phones and the release of Motorola, Inc.'s CLIQ mobile phone. The lawsuits were filed in federal court in the Eastern District of Texas, Klausner Technologies said.
Research In Motion Limited Announces Common Share Repurchase Program
Research In Motion Limited announced that its Board of Directors has authorized a share repurchase program to purchase for cancellation through the facilities of the NASDAQ Stock Market (NASDAQ) common shares having an aggregate purchase price of up to $1.2 billion, or approximately 21 million common shares based on current trading prices (representing approximately 3.6% of the currently outstanding common shares of Research In Motion Limited). The share repurchase program may commence on November 9, 2009, and will remain in place for up to 12 months or until the purchases are completed or the program is terminated by Research In Motion Limited. Research In Motion Limited has not repurchased any shares within the past 12 months.

Reuters reported that Research In Motion Limited is launching a new version of its touchscreen Storm smartphone. The smartphone retains the original Storm's clickable touchscreen interface, but improves upon it with faster typing and multitouch capabilities, which allow users to type on more than just one part of the screen at a time.

Rogers Wireless and Research In Motion Limited announced that they have launched the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone. It's the latest addition to the BlackBerry Curve series of smartphones and it provides a highly intuitive and efficient mobile experience for users with easy mobile access to email, messaging (IM, SMS, MMS) and social networking sites including Facebook and MySpace, as well as rich multimedia capabilities. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone will be available from Rogers Wireless in two colours - black and violet. Rogers Wireless is a subsidiary of Rogers Communications.

Research In Motion Limited announced the BlackBerry Widget Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable third party application developers to build rich, integrated applications for BlackBerry smartphones using common web technologies. With the new BlackBerry Widget SDK, developers can build web-based applications for BlackBerry smartphones with advanced features and functionality, a capability only previously available for BlackBerry applications written in Java.
