XOMA Ltd. Announces Grant Of Its First European Patent Related To The XOMA 052 program.
XOMA Ltd. announced the grant of its first European Patent related to the XOMA 052 program. Granted by the European Patent Office, the patent covers XOMA's interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) antibody XOMA 052, as well as nucleic acids, expression vectors and production cell lines for the manufacture of XOMA 052. The patent provides exclusivity in Europe into 2026.
XOMA Ltd. Announces Initiation of Its Phase 2 Clinical Program for XOMA 052 in Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease
XOMA Ltd. announced plans for the Phase 2 clinical development of its anti-inflammatory drug candidate to interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta), XOMA 052, designed for the treatment of the inflammatory cause of cardiovascular, diabetes, autoimmune and other diseases. The clinical trials are designed to further evaluate the use of multiple dose regimens on the safety, pharmacodynamics and efficacy of XOMA 052 in cardiometabolic and other diseases, and based on positive results, select doses for pivotal Phase 3 studies. The Phase 2b program is expected to include several studies including a dose-ranging study. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial is designed to select an appropriate dose for Phase 3 evaluation and expand the safety database. The primary endpoint for the study will be the mean reduction in HbA1c at six months. Additional diabetes and cardiovascular outcomes will be evaluated. XOMA plans to initiate this trial when resources permit.
XOMA Ltd. Announces $13.9 Million Financing
XOMA Ltd. announced the sale of 18 million of its common shares to Azimuth Opportunity Ltd. for gross proceeds of $13.9 million, or approximately $0.77 per share, under its existing committed equity financing facility with Azimuth. The Company intends to use the net proceeds from this sale to continue development of its XOMA 052 product candidate, for other general corporate purposes and for working capital.
XOMA Ltd. To Develop Therapeutic Antibody For H1N1 and H5N1 Influenza Viruses Under $2.2 Million U.S. Government Program Managed by SRI International
XOMA Ltd. announced that it has expanded its biodefense programs to include the development of a antibody that has been shown by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School researchers to neutralize group 1 influenza A viruses, including the H1N1 and the H5N1 strains. XOMA will conduct the F10 antibody program under a $2.2 million subcontract with SRI International, a nonprofit scientific research institute based in Menlo Park, California. The subcontract will be funded through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health. XOMA's responsibilities will include the evaluation and optimization of the antibody cell line for growth, productivity, manufacturability and performance in bioreactors, following which XOMA will manufacture the antibody for preclinical studies. XOMA has extensive expertise in the discovery, development, engineering and evaluation of antibody drug candidates to a wide range of infectious diseases and other targets. The Company also has significant antibody manufacturing experience and the capacity in its GMP-certified facility to produce large quantities of antibody-based drugs for stockpiling and therapeutic uses.
XOMA Ltd. Announces $6 Million Antibody Discovery Collaboration with Cephalon, Inc.'s Arana Therapeutics
XOMA Ltd. and Arana Therapeutics Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cephalon, Inc., have entered into a collaboration involving multiple XOMA antibody research and development technologies, including a new antibody phage display library, and a suite of integrated information and data management systems. Arana has agreed to pay XOMA a fee of $6 million and XOMA will be entitled to milestone payments and royalties on product sales. Under the terms of the collaboration, XOMA will be fully reimbursed for all services it may provide to Arana under the agreement.
