Dr. Sherwin is the Director of BioSante Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Sherwin has served as Chief Executive Officer since the Company’s inception, and in March 1994 he was elected to the additional position of Chairman of the board of directors. From 1983 to 1990, Dr. Sherwin held various positions at Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company, most recently as vice president of clinical research. Prior to 1983, Dr. Sherwin was on the staff of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Sherwin currently serves as the chairman of the board of Ceregene, Inc., a former subsidiary of Cell Genesys, which he co-founded in 2001. Dr. Sherwin was also a co-founder of Abgenix, Inc, another former subsidiary of Cell Genesys, which was acquired by Amgen in 2006. He is also a director of Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. and Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Sherwin, who also serves as a board member and a vice chair of the board of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Yale University, an Doctorate in Medicine from Harvard Medical School and is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
