Ms. Obiageli Ezekwesili is Non-Executive Independent Director of Bharti Airtel Limited. She is former Presidential Advisor, former Minister of Education and Minister of Mines & Minerals for the Federal Republic of Nigeria – was until May 2012 the Vice President for Africa Region at the World Bank. Under her leadership, the World Bank's Africa team employed innovation, knowledge, partnership and financial services to strengthen results across Africa and to improve the prospects for Africa's economic performance. Her close attention to the needs of our clients, engagement with African leadership and with regional institutions -- such as the African Union, EAC and ECOWAS -- as well as with the UN and other partners, has been instrumental to the Bank's enhanced effectiveness across Africa. The new Bank strategy for Africa and its implementation plan, both developed under her leadership, offer a strong legacy. A relentless campaigner for transparency and anti-corruption, she has also led in the use of ICT for Development; in supporting social accountability mechanisms through civil society engagement; and in promoting innovative approaches to regional integration. Since leaving the World Bank, Ezekwesili has been working with the Soros Foundation to set up an Economic Policy Development Initiative through which she and a team of policy experts will offer policy expertise and advisory to leaders of governments in Africa. Ms. Ezekwesili is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Masters in International Law & Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, a Masters in Public Policy & Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and a Bachelors degree from the University of Nigeria.
