Brief Biography
Sir Ian Smith serves as Designated Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Reed Elsevier Group plc, Reed Elsevier PLC and Reed Elsevier NV with effect from January 1, 2009 until March 2009. He will then take up his responsibility as Chief Executive Officer of the Company. He is currently Non-Executive Director of Galiform plc. Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of Taylor Woodrow plc from January 2007 until July 2007 when it merged with Wimpey plc. Prior to that he was Chief Executive Officer of the General Healthcare Group since 2004, having previously been CEO Europe for Exel, Group Commercial Director of Ocean Group plc and prior o that, Managing Director of Monitor Company Europe, a strategy consulting firm. Sir Ian Smith began his career with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies.
