Mr. Donald E. Kiernan is Director of Health Management Associates, Inc., since 2001. He is the retired Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of SBC Communications, Inc., a telecommunications company, a position he held from October 1993 to August 2001. Prior to that and since 1990, he served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Treasurer for SBC Communications, Inc. Mr. Kiernan is a Certified Public Accountant and former partner of Arthur Young & Company. Mr. Kiernan also serves on the boards of directors of LaBranche & Co Inc. and Seagate Technology.
