Shelton, Henry 

Gen. (Retd.) Henry Hugh Shelton, United States Army, is an Independent Director of L 3 Communications Holdings Inc. General (U.S. Army — Ret.) Shelton was the senior officer of the United States military and principal military advisor to the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense and the National Security Council when he served as the fourteenth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1997 until his retirement in 2001. He had previously served as Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM). He has served as the Executive Director of the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center at North Carolina State University since January 2002. From January 2002 until April 2006, General (Ret.) Shelton served as the President, International Sales of M.I.C. Industries, an international manufacturing company. General (Ret.) Shelton was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2001 and awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2002. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Red Hat, Inc. and has also served as a director of Anheuser Busch Companies, Inc., CACI, Anteon International and Protective Products of America, Inc. He is a designated National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Fellow.
