Brief Biography
Dr. Franz B. Humer has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding Ltd. since 2001. He is Chairman of the Presidium/Nomination Committee. From 2001 until March 4, 2008, he also served as Chairman of the Corporate Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer at the Company. He holds a Doctor of Law from the University of Innsbruck and a Masters of Business Administration from INSEAD. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Faculty of Science, University of Basel. From 1971 until 1973, he worked for ICME Zurich. From 1973 until 1981, he worked for Schering Plough Corporation, where he was General Manager in Ecuador, the United Kingdom and Portugal. From 1981 until 1995, he worked for Glaxo Holdings plc as Area Manager, Southern Europe, Director of Marketing Development and Product Licensing, and Chief Operating Director. In 1995, he joined F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd as Member of the Board of Directors of the Roche Holding Ltd, Basel, and Head of the Pharmaceuticals Division. In 1996, he became Chief Operating Officer of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. In 1998, he became Chief Executive Officer Roche Holding Ltd. He is Member of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT), Member of the JPMorgan International Council, Member of the International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai, Board Member of Salzburg University, Chairman of the Friends of Phelophepa Foundation, Switzerland, Member of the International Advisory Board of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Non-Executive Chairman of Diageo Plc, Member of the Supervisory Board of Allianz AG, Board Member of Chugai Pharmaceuticals, Japan (Roche Subsidiary), Chairman of the Humer Stiftung and Chairman of INSEAD.
