Mr. Santiago Javier Fernandez Valbuena serves as Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Telefonica SA and Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Latin America Division of the Company. He joined the Company’s Board on September 17, 2012 and has acted as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Latin America Division of the Company since September 5, 2011. Previously, he served as General Manager of Strategy, Finance and Corporate Development of the Company. He is also Member of the Company's Executive Committee. He joined the Company in 1997 as Chief Executive Officer of Fonditel, the pensions and asset manager of the Telefonica Group. From 2002 until 2010, he was Group Chief Financial Officer, over that period he held additional responsibilities, including Procurement, IT and Human Resources (2003-2005) and Corporate Development and Affiliates (2007-2011). Prior to joining the Company, he was Managing Director of Societe Generale Valores and Head of Equities at Beta Capital in Madrid. He was Professor at Universidad Complutense and Instituto de Empresa in Madrid. Mr. Fernandez Valbuena holds a Master of Science degree in Economics and a Doctorate in Philosophy degree in Economics, both from the Northeastern University, Boston, as well as a Bachelors degree in Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
