Dr. Josef Ackermann, Ph.D., has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Zurich Insurance Group AG as of March 2012. Prior to that, he was Non-Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zurich Insurance Group AG since March 30, 2010. Dr. Ackermann gained his doctorate in economics and social sciences from the University of St. Gallen Switzerland. In 1977, he joined Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (SKA). In 1990, he was appointed to the Executive Board of SKA, becoming its President in 1993. In 1996, he joined the Management Board of Deutsche Bank AG, where he was responsible for the investment banking division. In 2002, he became Spokesman of the Management Board and Chairman of the Group Executive Committee. On February 1, 2006, he was appointed Chairman of the Management Board. He is Second Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG, Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Royal Dutch Shell plc, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Belenos Clean Power Holding Ltd. He is Member of the Initiators’ Group of the Initiative Finanzstandort Deutschland, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Finance, Co-Chairman of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum, Chairman of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies, Honorary Senate Member of the Foundation Lindau Nobelprizewinners Meetings at Lake Constance and Advisory Director of the Metropolitan Opera New York. In 2007, he accepted an appointment as Visiting Professor in Finance at the London School of Economics. In July 2008, he was appointed Honorary Professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universitaet Frankfurt. He is Honorary Fellow of the London Business School and holds Honorary Doctorate from the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. He is Member of the Governance and Nominations Committee, and Member of the Remuneration Committee at the Company.
