Chiltern Railways has said its planned 250 million pound upgrade of rail services between London, Oxford and the West Midlands has been made economically viable by its new 20-year franchise and a deal to spread its payments over 30 years. Railway lines running on the old Oxford-Cambridge route and from Birmingham Moor Street to London Marylebone will undergo extensive improvements, which it is hoped will decrease journey times and reduce the heavy congestion on the A34 and A40 roads.
