TOKYO, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average rose 0.4 percent Wednesday as metal stocks such as Sumitomo Metal Mining climbed after gold hit record highs, but gains were limited after the Bank of Japan's new funding plan fell short of market expectations.
