The FTSE small cap index is 0.3 percent higher at the close, underperforming a surging blue chip index , which is up 1.2 percent, bouyed by positive data from the U.S., while the FTSE 250 rises 1.8 percent.

Shares in UKrproduct Group plunge 29.7 percent after the supplier and distributor of branded dairy products in the Ukraine says it has experienced a further slowdown in trading activities since reporting its preliminary results in April, leading WH Ireland to cut its 2009 forecasts.

LONDON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Ukraine food producer Ukrproduct Group said on Friday its second-half performance had been ahead of management expectations with profit after tax for the year likely to reach 3 million pounds ($6.13 million).
