May 27. - A spate of shark attacks in Mexico has alarmed residents, and Mexican authorities have begun killing sharks to protect tourism.

Fred Katayama reports.

  • SOUNDBITE: Animal activist, Natalia Parra, saying, (Spanish):
    "We immediately demand the halting of this massacre. Sharks are in their habitat, they are in their territory. Authorities should've taken different measures, to warn tourists and residents, to place banners and alerts, but not to kill sharks because 100 million sharks are killed each year."
