Dec 1 - As a United Nations climate change conference opens in Poznan, Poland on Monday (1 December), activists illustrate their desire to 'crack the climate nut'.

Activists from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) distribute walnuts and nut-crackers to curious passers-by.

About 9,000 delegates from 185 nations are meeting from December 1 to work on a new U.N. climate treaty overshadowed by fears of a deep economic slowdown.

Talks are part of a two-year drive to agree a new pact to fight global warming by the end of 2009 and to succeed the Kyoto Protocol.
