Dec 29 - Dow Chemical's acquisition plans and tensions in the Gaza Strip rattled U.S. markets on Monday.

The major U.S. indexes all ended down on Monday.

  • The Dow Jones fell 31.62 points to close at 8483.93.
  • The S&P 500 lost 3.38 points to close at 869.42
  • The Nasdaq slid 19.92 points to end at 1510.32 .
  • Crude oil settled at $40.02 a barrel.
