UK music sales surprise

(02:11) Report

Jan 7 - British retailers managed to sell a record combined number of DVDs, games and music in 2008 despite the economic gloom, according to new data.

According to the Entertainment Retailers Association, the fastest-growing sector was computer games which posted a 17 percent rise in unit sales to 82.8 million, while DVD sales grew 1.9 percent to 252.9 million units.

Perhaps the most surprising finding was the strength of music sales in the face of grim predictions.

Reuters Technology Correspondent Matt Cowan reports.
