Jan 9 - Tens of thousands of devotees escort the Black Nazarene statue around the streets of Manila.
Around 160,000 people flocked to Manila on Friday to celebrate the feast of the Black Nazarene, a dark-skinned image of Christ.
The devotees joined a five-kilometre procession to escort the statue back to Quiapo church.
The wooden Black Nazarene, is cherished by Filipino Catholics, who believe it performs miracles.
It was believed to have been burned while being transported, hence the black colour.
Devotees twirled white towels and threw them towards the carriage to be wiped on the statue, hoping to catch some of its miraculous power, while other male devotees squeezed into two tight queues to pull the ropes attached to the statue's carriage to atone their sins.
